What would Seven have made of Chakotay's religion?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Or more precisely that little doohicky machine which creates a temporary collective between a small group of people where they meet their animal guides? Wouldn't it be like an Alcoholic married to a wholesaler, or a crack whore marrying her pimp dealer?

Surely the temptation would get to her after a while?

I think that she'd think it was illogical & an inefficient use of time.

I could go with this. But, it was never stated that that thingy created a small 'hive mind'. It was just stated that it created a hallucinogenic effect without the use of drugs. I don't think that's the same thing.

She would take his Akooche device, throw some Borg nanoprobes in it, and create a direct neural interface with the device to eliminate the meditation process and just get right down to what the animal has to say. More efficient that way. :techman:

She does have three of her own personalities bundling about in there other than some hypothetical animal guide and all the victims of her assimilations rampages we once saw pour out, and they would be Anika from Unimatrix Zero, and the Lounge singer from Nazi occupied France, and a stern admin lady from Workforce, who might make a break for it if the lines of reality got blurred.

I don't know why drugs get such a bum rap.

I think Chakotay/7 is more creepy than Neelix/Kes and refuse to accept it...BUT I think she'd find his religion, "irrelevant"

Rastafarian's are religiously about the gunja as the first nation lot are about their peace pipe... How catholic could Buffy have been with crucifixes everywhere and respects every Sunday that she could have kept a Vampire boyfriend for any duration?

It's the props of Chuckle's religion, not the script.

His little device is gateway assimilation to mass-assimilation. And he's a real bastard if he keeps assimilating with people if his missus is on the wagon... Two people smoke. they live together. One gives up and the other doesn't. That's a cause for friction, co-dependency and a fall from grace.

Seven did show somewhat of a spiritual side in The Omega Directive, her and Chakotay seemed to bond over it, so who knows.

The whole idea of the borg having any kind of a culture including spiritual beliefs is one I find hard to swallow. You cannot have beliefs if you do not have free will.

Severed from the Collective, Seven had free will. What was essentially a directive in the Collective (assimilate perfection in the form of Omega at all costs) became a different sort of drive. She said as much to Janeway.

To the original question... If Omega was indeed What Went Bang in the Big Bang (as Janeway said that Federation cosmologists had postulated), then Chakotay and Seven's spiritual beliefs aren't that far apart. Chakotay believes in an immanent (within nature) divinity which is described metaphorically. Seven sees the same thing from a scientific perspective.

ETA: As for her animal guide? A raven.

Describing it as a borg directive makes a lot more sense to me than as a spiritual belief. Omega was just another thing they wanted to assimilate just as they wanted to assimilate other creatures. The idea of beings without free will attaching spiritual significance was ludicrous.

Personally I believe that Seven as an individual took that directive and added her own personal twist to it as the START of her spiritual quest.

ETA: As for her animal guide? A raven.

That has never been stated in the show. Yes, she did dream about a raven but then her parent's ship was called Raven so her mind associated the bird with her assimilation experience.

The only crewmembers who Chakotay shared his akoonah with that we know of are B'Elanna and Janeway.

That was my creative interpretation, what I use in my fanfic.

I'm sorry if that wasn't clear. I was merely countering the mechanical dog suggestion.

I think Seven would have considered Chakotay's religion a total waste of time, but then I see Seven as the archetypal atheistic scientist. If there was common ground between Chakotay's perfect "spirit creator" and Seven's worship of the corporeal perfection of the omega molecule, it couldn't have been much larger than a fly speck, or maybe a loose definition of "perfection,' with each of them heading off in completely opposite directions from there.

The only spirit guide we know for sure is Janeway's little lizard, right? All we know of Chakotay's is that it is female. And all we know of B'Elanna's is that she tried to kill it! :klingon:

Doubtful. If 7 really wanted to "hook up" with a collective, I'm sure she could have put a cortical node on Harry and interfaced with him

What happened to Ransom. Faux Seven walking in on his cortical implant escapism. I always assumed he just went batshit, but could he have found the same sort of religion our Indian enjoys? Force yourself to hallucinate and then obey the hallucination?

If there was common ground between Chakotay's perfect "spirit creator"

When did Chakotay speak of a "spirit creator"? When did he speak of a creator god at all?

I can't remember even one instance...

Yep. All else is speculation.

What about his Sky Spirits he met in Tattoo?

Met god, maybe I won't worship any more, but seems like a decent bloke.

Why would this be tempting? We saw Chakotay use it alone. We saw Janeway use it - she could hear Chakotay's voice, but she was still alone. B'Elanna tried to kill her animal guide. That was pretty much the what.

And why did Chakotay still have his medicine bundle? Did he grab it before he beamed off his ship? Or did he reassemble it with the replicator? Inquiring minds want to know.

I can see Seven getting really irritated with her animal guide and hitting it.

I can see Illyria getting really irritated with her animal guide and hitting it. If you catch the Angel ref there. Seven not so much.
