EURO 2008 - The Official Trek BBS Thread

Hahaha!!!!!!!! This thread is priceless.

That's why I love talking football.... you can get worked up but it's all good fun. :)

Germans are absolutely right, though, that Austrians have harped on about Cordoba long enough, now.

It would be so easy for Germany, though, to ensure that they will never, ever, ever have to hear "Cordoba" again.

All you guys need to do is .. lose :D

(It will be a fun game in any case, though. If Austria wins, it'll be bloody fantastic - duh. If Germany wipes the floor with Austria as they should .. well, I've followed Austrian football long enough to get some masochistic pleasure from seeing Austria destroyed. It's the only way you can follow Austrian football on the long run without going completely insane.)

Turkey vs. Czech Republic.

My team is out. But woaw. This was the nuttiest game in the history of everything ever.

Yeah, fucking incredible.
I'm tempted to drive into the city now, I'm sure the celebrations are crazy. :)

My sister, who lives at Keplerplatz, just called me. She isn't counting on much sleep this night.
Even I could hear the cars blowing their horns in the background over the phone.

Now if tomorrow could be just as insane, I will be very, very happy. I wonder if I will hear the Austrian fans yell out here (14th district)

Oh man what second half that was. Cech fucked up really big but the Nihat's 2 goals at the end was crazy.

They flat out gave that one away! All credit to the Turks for their 'never say die' attitude, but their opponents' ineptitude was the main reason they won that one. Cech will have nightmares about that drop for months.....

GM

Did anyone catch what Baroš said or did to get a yellow card, on the bench? Haven't seen that happen before. Though I have seen the ref send the trainer off the field.

Something else I would like to know: what made Volkan flip out like that? Did Kollar say something rude? It just seemed completely random.

Hah. Quarter final .. Turkey vs. Croatia, in Vienna. And I'll be in town.

That'll be fun.

First goal, by v.Nistelrooy clearly off side.

Nope, just the opposite, it was very clearly not offside, because of an Italian player behind the goal line.

1-0 for The Netherlands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :techman:

edit: 2-0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Halftime. Should be 3-0.

First goal, by v.Nistelrooy clearly off side.

There was an Italian defender lying next to the goal, he canceled any off-side.

THANK YOU! I'm just watching the game now on ESPN360. I guess none of these soccer experts at ESPN have any clue about offside. What bothers me is that millions of people are getting crap information from the tele and believe the AR made a mistake when he nailed the no-call.

Leaving the pitch, by will or by force, doesn't mean a thing w/out the permission of the referee. You're still a player, and if you step off the back of the endline as a defender, you're now the LAST defender and the first defender on pitch-side of the end line (in this case, the keeper) becomes the second to last defender.

The first quarter finals are in: Portugal - Germany and Croatia - Turkey.

Now lets see if Scolari was right in resting the team at the game with the Swiss...

I'll have to go back and look (I still have it in the Tivo buffer) because it is possible it was clear for all to see; but when I first saw it, I didn't notice the player getting moved off the pitch. One of the problems of not watching football live, you miss things not being able to see the whole pitch. The announcers are watching the same feed we are, so perhaps they missed it as well.

Grazie Van Basten. Thank you for not forgetting your old Milan family member and good friend Donadoni. :D

^ About time. He made some really horrendous tactical and call up decisions in his time as the Les Bleus manager. Last time he was saved by veterans from the golden generation like Zidane and Thuram. This time both of them are too old.

Much as I would have enjoyed Romania moving up instead of Italy, I'm glad Holland disregarded long-term "tactics" and played to win, also if they took it easy. Classy move from a classy team.

Spain should be able to beat Italy, but I'm a bit worried about Spain relying too heavily on Torres and Villa. Just look at the goal statistics - while Holland and Portugal has more people shooting goals than you can count, it's just these two guys for Spain.

Whooo-hooo for Italy! Ehm. Sorry. As usual, we start playing only after we get kicked in the ass. We got lucky this time. France played quite poorly, a couple of lucky shots, and Netherlands went into business like the professionals they are. But we have to do more, and fast, if we want to stay in the tournament. Spain won't be easy.

Grumpy old bastard...

Raymond Domenech has blamed referee Lubos Michel for France’s Euro 2008 exit last night, and says it was if it had already been arranged that Italy were supposed to win.

It was a clear sending off and also to say something like that is out of order.

Raymond Domenech you better get your cheque book out, I smell a fine :p
