I still don't really understand the purpose of the "Sombreroprise."![]()
Simple: to be AWESOME.
And make Abrams cry in shame. We have to have that.

Ah, so this is basically a way to protest the stupid and unnecessary canon changes Abrams has made for no reason other than to attract "new fans?" I can get on that!!And make Abrams cry in shame. We have to have that.![]()

Trekmovie said:Ever wondered what the USS Enterprise would look like if fans really had a say in the design, find out below in this weeks Great Links.
...
If you ever needed proof that the new USS Enterprise for JJ Abrams Star Trek should not be designed by a committee and adhere to all fan requests, one only needs to look at the ever evolving images of the ‘USS Sombreroprise’ which was spontaneously created by creative denizens of the TrekBBS, within a discussion about "Should the Enterprise have blue warp nacelles."
So it's really just a mockery of the very idea that Abrams should adhere to canon, eh?
I'll bet you people would sing a different tune if it was your precious TNG/DS9/VGR Abrams was fucking up.

Funny, people never seemed to have a dispute over TOS canon for the 40 years Trek has been around. The only real "canon debate" that fans can't agree on is whether or not "Enterprise" should be added to the Trek continuity.More a mockery of the idea that every single poster here has an idea of what "canon" Abrams should include in his film, and you can barely find two people who's opinions on the matter line up.
He'll never be able to please everyone, so we might as well have some fun.![]()
There's only so far you can change something before it becomes a totally different entity. I think Abrams should keep that in mind.
Sorry, I just get really tired of people making fun of my show and my beliefs in the show. After years of putting up with it, my tolerance wears thin...VERY thin...There's only so far you can change something before it becomes a totally different entity. I think Abrams should keep that in mind.
And the degree of that change before it becomes a different entity is different for each person, which was my point. What you see as violating the Trek spirit I and Sam and plenty of others see as interesting cosmetic surgery.
So relax and have fun. We've got PEZ!![]()
Nice!
Oh, I don't think that was ever the case.(Am I the only female in this thread? Surely not!)
Hey, some of us here started watching when TOS was the only Star Trek and there were still new episodes on television every week. We also remember that TOS was not above having a little fun at its own expense and that it is possible to poke fun at something and like it a lot at the same time.Sorry, I just get really tired of people making fun of my show and my beliefs in the show. After years of putting up with it, my tolerance wears thin...VERY thin...
I just don't see why they can't make a straight-up TOS movie. Would it kill them? There wouldn't be any "canon disputes" because it would stick to canon, and the only complaints would be from those people who want to see a "different version" for some reason (not like we haven't seen plenty of "different versions" by now). I don't want ANOTHER regurgitated "reimagining," I want to see Star Trek in the form I grew to know and love, dammit! I'm sick and tired of being left out in the rain as a TOS fan, and now they finally make another TOS movie and it's still as much of a fuck up as the TMP+ shitfests!!
I hope you understand where I'm coming from, as well as my feelings on the matter. I'm tired of people making a joke out of it, whether it comes from non-fans or fans alike.![]()
PEZ and a drink -- that's a start. Try reading through some of the thread and see how things developed. It may be irreverent at times, but I don't think you'll find it at all disrespectful. If it strikes you to smile or chuckle at something you see... go ahead -- that's what it's for.*accepts PEZ and shares the drink*
EDIT: Sorry if I went a little mental there, I was a bit upset about some other things and just needed a drink...god I sound like an emo bitch.![]()

However, can we change our avatars now? This is getting ridiculous!![]()

Very Well Done!

M'Sharak, have I told you lately that I love you?Hey, some of us here started watching when TOS was the only Star Trek and there were still new episodes on television every week. We also remember that TOS was not above having a little fun at its own expense and that it is possible to poke fun at something and like it a lot at the same time.
In the interim, there have come to be those (not just TOS fans, mind you) who take every little detail so bloodymindedly seriously -- to the extent of reading the riot act because Wingnut 111.47 is the wrong color!! -- that it tends to take some of the fun out of things for the rest of us.
We're still TOS fans here -- well, a lot of us are -- and we realize that it simply is neither possible nor practical to have exactly the same thing as what we saw on the television episodes of forty years ago. What we do have is someone who genuinely appears to be interested in making the best movie he can -- right now -- with those characters in that universe. We think he should do just that, and are very interested in seeing how he does with it.
All this thread is is an attempt to have a little fun with the perception of "the way things should be". We seem to have succeeded admirably. Will everyone find it as amusing as we have? Probably not, but it isn't intended as any sort of mean-spirited slap; it's just fun, and we hope, but don't expect, that others will like it too.
That's the deal here.
