um those ratings, argh its a real shame that was a very good episode, the week off probaly didnt help, and the poor lead in from Id Do Anything didnt help matters, but god darn it, why do people watch crap like Got Talent?

i've never met any black people without black or white/grey hair that was natural.

Huh.

I recommend leaving the house once in awhile.

 He's not saying anything unreasonable.

Neither am I. Nor did I say that he said anything unreasonable. Calm yourself! It'll all be ok, I promise.

I swear, some of you people are wayyyyy too easily offended.

Well, there was this Algerian girl in Strasbourg...

But all the same, Alex Kingston isn't black

Nope, not 100% anyway.

They'll probably get high number of people timeshifting it, and higher ratings than usual for the repeats. Do they count iPlayer in the Beeb's ratings? Cos it'll probably get a boost from that too.

thats a good point, I would think Doctor Who tops the iPlayer chart normally, not sure what the BBC 3 repeat ratings normally are

I presume the little girl is
the library computer who went crazy
, while Dr. Moon is probably
some kind of self-diagnostic system maintenance software
. :-)

Wow that was fantastic! Didn't get a chance to watch it till this morning but the moment it was over I wanted to watch it all over again! I've never felt so on edge at the end of a two parter!

Have to say I didn't find the shadows that creepy (certainly not up there with gas mask children or angels) but the episode was fantastic all the same. who the hell is River Song?

Some theories- hence no spoiler code!

1. Jenny after a regeneration. Unlikely as their relationship seemed anything but father/daughter
2. Romana
3. Rose (assuming breathing in the time vortex imbued her with the ability to regenerate- hey you never know)
4. non of the above, just a character the doctor has yet to meet.

I am certainly intrigued that's for sure!

I would go with 4. Since she said he was younger than she'd ever seen him.

That River Song is actually a future regeneration of The Doctor?

No.

The Doctor's Wife

Ummmm.....how did I get involved in those quotes? I'm not even part of the conversation and don't believe either of those theories... :wtf:

You know when i first saw the trailer for this episode i honestly thought it was going to be just a mediocre episode, i mean how wrong could i have been, the trailer for this episode definitely does not do the episode any justice at all.

Song can't be anyone who has ever met Donna or will meet Donna. That rules out almost everyone. She can't be a timelord because the Doctor "would just know" and they're in the 51st century before or after the the Doctor Destroyed the weapon fields of Villiangard and replaced them with a banana grove. Her Squareness gun is period specific.

So are the Vashto Nerad(sp???) the big bad for the season who are destroying worlds? I was half expecting that when the Doctor said they ate road kill, that Donna would have asked if they ate bees?

Is the first time someone did not conclude Donna and the Doctor were a couple?

IIRC her father is black and her mother is German. I could be wrong about that.

Anyway, it's more her facial structure that suggests recent African ancestors than her skin tone.

I assume you meant, "Is the first time someone did not conclude Donna and the Doctor were a couple?"

Yeah, I was thinking something like that.

The little girl is clearly not a little girl per se. We only see the world from her perspective. There are no exterior shots of the house.

"I'm a time traveller, I point and laugh at archaeologists." A great quote, I love it. :D

Alex Kingston's character was right, the Doctor is a pretty boy, well David Tennant is fairly pretty I think.

I really did enjoy this episode a lot. The little girl was weird, and the entire thing was rather freaky, especially Dave in the suit and Donna at the end. The 'ghosting' reminded me of a recent Supernatural episode and the little girl reminded me a bit of Molly in Heroes, in fact the whole thing seemed rather familiar, but it was still good stuff. :D I can't wait for next week...

The alternative to the above which is utterly blatant and obvious and more than likely the case... Remember what the robots from the Girl in the Fireplace did? What if this was done to a little girl on purpose? So apart from being the computer, she could also be exactly what she seems to a degree? Although why she would embrace the 21st century is any ones guess, but Cal is certainly ripping off a few of the story devices from Life on Mars.

I've corrected the quote tags. How they got into that state is anybody's guess, right now. It could have been a mistake on the part of an individual, or there could be a problem with vBulletin itself. Problems have been noted elsewhere on the board, so I'm guessing the latter.

In any event, if I messed up the correction, I apologize.

Yeah, that's the proper quoting.

I think the problem stemmed from the top header of each quote being all on the same line, so sometimes people forget to take out one of them. I've seen this happen from time to time.

Well, I've watched it twice, and I confess I find it hard to get as excited as everyone else. Libraries have been the setting for enough horror and drama that this was just one more (and a humano-centric one at that - books the size and shape for humans to read). Likewise the terror in the shadow. I'm sure I've read/seen something else with people having two shadows. I can't recall what - but it just didn't feel fresh. And there were too many other bits that were repeated ideas (the doctor talking in the TV? Don't blink!) Likewise the characters: the businessman more interested in his patents than people's lives, his dippy secretary, the staunch military type... never seen any of them before. And the zombie spacesuit - I so saw that coming. The 'zombie walk' was cliched.

I did like the idea of River Song - the idea that time travellers lines would cross and get tangled is very interesting. But I can't help feeling (sorry guys) that it would get old very quickly. Let her drop into the Doctor's timeline very, very sparingly, hinting at spoilers and disappearing, and she'll be very effective. I hope Moffat is able to see that - RTD would flog the idea to death. Oh, and we're talking more than 13 generations if he's currently 'very young'!

The child's environment was interesting too. Slightly surreal, strange mix of cultures and eras going on, even to a 60s cream phone. Felt a little like the bar in the last ep of Quantum Leap.

But unlike everyone else, I don't feel very 'cliff-hung'. The child is CAL, and her environment is a self-creation for sense of safety. It is her task to 'save' the people in the library - as she saved the 4000 odd who were there when it shut down: saved them to her 'extensive flesh banks', that is. She shut down the library, and now it has been 'breached' by more people.

The introduction of the 'data ghost' is to present the idea that consciousness can be preserved in data form, so that having been 'saved' it can also be restored at the end. Including, of course, Donna's data and consciousness.

I really hope I'm wrong, and it's not all that predictable. I want to be surprised.
