I just spent minutes watching TV in a video game... awesome.
That's the first thing I did in game. There's some hilarious stuff on there, like the cartoon. Republican Space Rangers, or whatever it's called.
My experience so far is the exact opposite of what I usually do in GTA, which get to a save point and then run around on a rampage in my next several game sessions until I'm bored enough to actually start the missions. Here, I haven't done much shooting, running people over or anything, but I jumped right into the missions. I'm not usually a big fan of cutscenes, but I like the Niko character quite a bit.
I have to admit I was immediately disappointed with the graphics until I got some time to take them in along with the scope of the city. The physics are a lot of fun, too. I accidentally ran into a cab and decided to go ahead and push it along the street for a bit. The driver just sort of slid out of the door after I came to a stop.
I had another incident where I accidentally knocked over a light pole. A woman was jogging down the street, and it landed on her, pinning her down.
I haven't done any multi-player content yet. Hopefully I'll get to play some tonight.
The game has a lot of really detailed suprises that make it all the better:
like I jacked a big flatbed truck. I threw the driver out and he landed on the road, but then as I drove away he grabbed on to the back of the truck and slid down the road as I pulled him, trying to get back to me to retake it. I just fishtailed the truck and sped up and he went flying into another car and died.

I just remembered another one that had me cracking up. I was going to pick up Michele and grabbed a taxi for our ride. The whole time I was driving to the nearest bar, I heard screaming coming from somewhere but couldn't see where it was coming from. Once I stopped, this guy gets out of the cab and starts running.
In the orignal set of GTA games if you made it up six stars after p*ssing off every single cop on the planet, you had the US Army deployed in force to take you down, even sending MBTs your way (which didn't fired their guns but just run you down).
However in GTA IV instead of the US Army's regional weekend warriors, you have a Gendarme style paramilitary force instead known as the National Organization of Security Enforcement (NOOSE for short) who seem to be LCPD SWAT on steroids that are equipped with assault rifles and armoured vehicles (but have no tanks). The FBI has been renamed the FIB (as a joke).
Also the regular police chopper around five star gets phased out and replaced by a heavily armed Black Hawk helicopter that has "L.C. Patriotism and Immigration Authority" embelished along it's sides (likely a satirical spoof of Homeland Security).

My jaw hit the floor when I saw standup with Ricky Gervais.
At first I thought, "that's one hell of a Ricky Gervais impression." then later on....
wow, it's actually him!!Didn't plan on being an owner of an Xbox 360 for this one. But here in Japan, where international release dates mean very little, I grabbed the first copy I laid eyes on walking down the street.
It is a total masterpiece. And I can't believe the yanks are going to allow the new animations for the hooker trick!
It's almost as graphic as Hot Coffee was! Not that there's anything wrong with that. I feel both sex and violence have a place in ADULT video games, of which GTAIV is.
Oh, one other thing: getting away from the cops is finally a challenging experience. And losing the wanted level (managing to drive outside a "hot zone") is finally logical.

Picked it up last night. The I've seen better graphics on the console, but it's still a definite improvement over the GTA 3 games.
Gameplay seems essentially unchanged so far. Controls take some getting used to, especially since all of my past GTA games have been on the PC.
I don't think it quite deserves all the 10/10's and 99%'s it's been getting, but it's still fun.
Now that IV is out, I wonder what they'll do with the expansions (I know they're not technically expansions, but whatever). I liked Liberty City, but I don't think I'd be interested in revisiting Vice City. San Andreas, maybe, but only because I didn't buy it the first time.

Not that I usually cheer on piracy, but I hope whoever has a rip of the 360 GTA can pull out the talk radio files. For me, they're the best part of the game but they never think to sell them.
Also, is there a way to display track information for songs on the radio? I remember that it used to do that in GTA:SA, but it seems like that's not the case here.

I don't remember it in San Andreas - the only similar game I've played with that feature was True Crime: New York City.
Still, the manual helps here (since it's one of those little adverts inside) - if you call 948 555 0100 on your cellphone while the song is playing (it's saved as ZiT in your phonebook afterwards), it'll call one of those 'play a bit of the song and we'll tell you what it is' services. And Lazlow makes an appearance on it
I can't quite figure out of that's awesome or just extremely annoying.
I love this game so far. Just the little details are pretty sweet. I didn't have any guns, so I went on a vehicle rampage until flames started shooting out of the tires, so I duck and rolled, and the car ended up sitting on the side of the road. Another car was passing by just as mine exploded in a huge fireball, causing the passing car to explode, and some dude opened up the door and started running around on fire.
I also tried the Sixaxis tutorial and the helicopter is pretty rough to handle so far.

If it's a shooter game, then no. 
Playing some more the game is starting to grow on me and you get so into the details as well. Like spending time watching TV or trying to get a car/motorcycle onto the rollercoaster (which I've had no luck trying so far, I want to try a scooter but there hard to find). Or squealing your tires until they burst and what not.

Anybody having any issues with it not saving your cars at your safehouse. Supposedly if you park a car (or two) within the marked off yellow parking area in front of your safehouse, and then save your game, the cars are supposed to be saved as well.
But that's not happening for me, not if I save and then quit the game.

I spent twenty minutes in the game playing bowling last night.
Then I ate a chickenburger and bought some new shoes.
You can do pretty much whatever you want to.
By the way, the new vigilante missions are amazing. In the police cruiser you can use the internet to select one of a few crimes happening locally and apprehend the suspect you want.
gh4chiefs, try parking only one car in the space, and park it really neatly. See if that works. If not, you may have to re-install the game files, but I have no idea how to do that, I just bought my Xbox.
