Yes, and they've all had to fight for their rights in some respects.
I don’t usually quote myself but the recount is in and the Liberal did carry the riding—by TEN votes (four from our house). I expect a bottle every two weeks.Just rechecked: my riding is the one where the Liberal just squeezed by the PQ by 14 votes. Will definitely be a recount (as there should with such a close margin). But right now, our house has provided 4 of those 14 votes. If she pulls off the upset, I expect to receive my monthly bottle of fine single malt whisky. The good stuff. Just like the good old days.https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/the-maple-leaf-lounge.293383/reply
Voted in our municipal election advanced polls today. Ended up strategic voting for the person who I thought had the best chance to beat the person who I really, really don't want to win, rather than the person who I would have actually preferred to win.
FPTP has got to go.
if trudeau had delivered on a fairly easy election promise and appointed a competent minister we could have gotten rid of it at the federal level at least.
my wife and I used the city's online voting for casting our ballots.
That would be a nice option, but we don’t have anything like that yet.
Yeah, I don't think many municipalities have online voting as it requires too much infrastructure. There was one time, in 2018, when our local municipality did try and it dragged us down into a scandal when the system went down for over a day and prevented us from getting results during election night. It stands to reason that during an election, systems should be absolutely prepared for the influx of activity that it would get during an election night, so I'm not sure why the company behind it wasn't more prepared or were even surprised when it went down due to an increase in activity. I mean, you should stress test these systems, no? That scandal was enough for our municipality to back out from doing any future online voting.
could be it's more of an option with smaller (under 100,000 people) municipalities but it's also open for 2 weeks before polling day which can negate oh shit load levels.
For us that’s the city of Saguenay, larger in surface area than something like 30 different countries. A dumb idea.which technically makes it the largest city by land area, due to just how spread out we are as a city via the 2001 Amalagamation.

Our city was forced into this via a Federal mandate in 2001
yep - local government is a provicial creation/exists at the whim of provincial legislation (and that's not unique to Canada).Weren't the 2001 amalgamations done provincially, under the Mike Harris government, not federally? Municipalities fall under provincial jurisdiction, at least in Ontario, anyway.
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
