Will SFA Season 2 Actually Air?

Im not sure why people assume it would be written off for tax purposes.

You've spent $10 making something. If you don't think it's worth more investment, thats fine. If you are going to invest more, thats fine. But the $10 you already spent is a write off for tax purposes regardless of which path you choose.
Because corporations are viewed as evil and will do anything for a buck regardless of logic.

That's just it

If you write off the $10 at a 33% rate, you save $3 when you pay your taxes
If you collect $4, you'll write off $6. You save $2 when you pay your taxes and you get $4 extra

They may write it off because it's considered so bad that it will damage the IP... but not to save a buck

Which is the flaw in the write off argument from us lay people not in the business. Recall that part of this viewpoint is that the current owners of Star Trek are embarrassed by Star Trek, hate Star Trek, and wish to anger fans. It isn't a facts based argument because ultimately we don't know how the production teams feel on the product.

The current owners of Trek want to make it more action oriented to try to get new viewers
No offense to Disco, but the amount of representation did very little to boost ratings. Not arguing good or bad, but reviewing ratings. The more the better, and Disco wasn't on the level of a flagship show. I would argue that the amount of LGBTQ represrntation and the lack of a white character lead actually hurt the ratings ( i loved Lorca and wish he was kept around and not turned into the mustache twirling villain we all knew was going to lose ) in part because of how often that was covered in the media, by both sides of the political spectrum.

"Air" has also just become a generic term referring to the episode's release. I thought it was generally known and accepted that people often use imprecise terms?
My misunderstanding, apologies.

Ive been told that tv ratings are quite different from streaming
Something about streaming is based on total time. So, if NCIS episode is 42 minutes and you watch 25 minutes and I watch 20 minutes it counts as 1 view and 3 minutes towards a second view.

TV ratings are calculated differently

Don't ask me to explain it as I barely understood it when it was explained to me a few years ago.

The ratings are what killed it. No one wants to face the fact that star trek just isn't what it once was. Sad but true.

The honest to god truth is: we don’t really know. Picardo’s statement is a supposition. Just as yours is. We can assume it’s ratings but we have no metrics because it never made the top 10. We also don’t know what Paramount (regardless of ownership) had its metrics based on. If you can point me to actual viewership numbers (not Rick from Red Letter Media’s bullshit 400k viewer claim from an “inside source” and not the YT posting), I’d be glad to be proven wrong. In the meantime, it would not surprise me if (1) ratings were lower than Paramount would like them to be and (2) it was a move to clear the board so new Paramount can do its own thing with the property. Whether that’s politically motivated or not, no one will ever know for sure outside of Paramount.

I thought it was 40,000 that they kept kicking around on the hate channels? 40,000 or 400,000, without proof they are just gibberish.

Mike said that there was a total viewership of 400k for the season (40k per episode) from his “source.” Which is immediately destroyed by the over 2 million viewers for the premiere alone.

If they were truly that bad, they would've buried the show pretty much immediately. We wouldn't be getting panels at various comic cons with the cast promoting the second season of the show. Which Paramount pays for.

It is amazing how simple logic consistently is beyond the grasp of these folks.

Viewership couldn't have been high. I went to a showing of TWOK last weekend. Most of the audience was in their late 60s to mid 70s. I was one of the fewer people younger but there were no kids, teens or twenty somethings in that audience. My niece or nephew had no interest in going. They know what Star Trek is but think its boring. Theyre teenagers. I was watching Trek in my single digits. It held my attention. But today's younger audience finds it slow and boring. They hear the name Star Trek and they run for the hills. Maybe its all the superhero films they grew up with or the tik tok videos they watch but to young people Star Trek just isn't exciting. I wish it weren't true but its becoming clear its a franchise without a future audience. 😢

Outside of your discussion of the audience for TWOK, the rest is supposition again. My son enjoyed the hell out of Prodigy. He’s 7. I don’t think he’s quite old enough for any other Trek other than TAS, which he tried but I think he was turned off by the animation. He said he enjoyed the story of the one episode he watched. He’s certainly not old enough for any of the other streaming Trek, even SFA.

Well sonethimg needs to change or the franchise will probably move into history or at the very least be over for the current generation of fans.
