I don't think it was that all extreme. She was just having the usual human difficulty of being "just friends" with a former lover, especially right after the breakup. This is perfectly normal for humans, even if Spock, being Vulcan, was taking a more "logical" approach to the situation.

I agree with you, but my thinking was layer that on top of that her whole augment issues and being convinced that she's going to be turning evil, the aftereffects of her actions on the Griffin, her saying that she needed to be the one to sacrifice herself during the warp thing last episode. She's acting like she's not necessarily very trusting of herself. Further isolating herself from her friends is where I start seeing red flags

Sounds like La'an is struggling with depression, negative self image, possible self-loathing. We know she doesn't like accepting help at times, struggles with trusting others, and the family history she has.

Kirk didn't know Spock's parents names until they boarded.

Which I have long thought was ridiculous. It's there for an opening hook, but it makes no sense that Kirk wouldn't piece together that the Vulcan Ambassador with the human wife weren't the parents of his first officer, the son of a Vulcan ambassador and human mother. It would be in his personnel file at the very least. Doesn't change your point, just sits there as a false hook at Kirk's expense.

Uhura telling them would mean nothing because they'd probably not bother remembering if Kirk can't even remember his first officer's parents names.

Yeah it's not just the names. He never should have mentioned Spock beaming down to visit his folks at that moment either. A personal suggestion in front of the ambassador of a private people. That damned teaser hook....

Higher dimensional beings are a dime a dozen in the Trek Universe.

But the playful beings with sideburns and frock coats don't come along as often. I would think Trelane would be recognizable a couple of years later just like a flamboyant person you had an incident with would be. "Oh god, I remember him! He threw a salami at me."

TOS was tanking long before Season 3. it barely got renewed after season 2

Ratings and story quality are two different things. TOS, like all TV shows, was variable, but creatively, it wasn't tanking. The story quality had zero to do with ratings.

I'm also not taking a stand against SNW either. Just saying.

The counselor Troi truck that drove me nuts was always after the Enterprise is attacked and sometimes damaged, the alien Captain is shown on screen and Troi opens up with:

" I sense great anger and hostility from him, Captain..."

What was up with La'an at the end. I know they're laying the ground work for something to happen to her by the end of the season, which is starting to get a little annoying with the telegraphing, but it does seem odd that she was completely cutting off her friendship with Spock. At this point I'm starting to wonder if they are just going to have her suicide herself.

I think she is leaving Starfleet. I do think she will still be a regular but could die towards the end of the series. I wonder if she might even break out of jail the real Sybok.

Wife watches Y&R every day, and has for decades. It's hilarious how they captured the "every conversation is life or death or something" trope. I caught myself laughing out loud at several of the situations, especially ... yeah, all of them. Soaps are predictable and addictive and infinitely repeatable.

Say what you will about the genre episodes this season, but IMO they're hitting all the marks.

Fuck this episode, the writers of this episode, and Alex Kurtzman for good measure. SNW Season 4 is officially the second worst season of Star Trek ever produced (still somehow beating Starfleet Academy). I'd rather rewatch post Season 2 Discovery at this point, at least that sometimes resembled Star Trek in between all the crying and magic babies.

They have taken a good premise for a show and a great cast and just shit all over both. The worst thing is that they've proven that they can make real star Trek episodes, they've done it twice this season and done them well, they literally just don't want to make Star Trek, so they don't.

1/10, I guess its technically "better" then the puppet episode but thats like saying getting punched in the face is less painful then taking a steel boot to the groin.
