I love that his very first pick is Time Bandits and how he muses about how the film is such surreal glimpse into the mind of Terry Gilliam. Of course, plenty of classic theater adaptations...and concludes with one of the all time greats, 12 Angry Men, a film that I'm long overdue for a rewatch.

Well unlike most of these videos I've actually seen two of those movies (Time Bandits and 12 Angry Men), and they're both pretty good. I'm always surprised when Criterion ends up having a few decent titles mixed in with the unwatchable artsy stuff, although them releasing a bunch of Godzilla films show that someone that works there has a more mainstream sensibility.

I do wish they'd get the rights back to Armageddon, they released it (with their standard array of special features) in a long OOP DVD but that is one of the few Criterion releases I'd probably buy just for the novelty if nothing else.

I really need to find an Olivier Shakespeare performance to watch sometime. I'm a huge Shakespeare fan, but I've never seen any of Olivier's movies.

Brief Encounter is a beautiful little gem of a romance movie that everyone should see at least once. One of David Lean's best films.

For a while, everyone was grabbing the Wes Anderson collection.

I always find interesting films to watch when watching these.

I always find interesting films to watch when watching these.

Twelve Angry Men originated as a live television performance on Studio One in 1954. It was later adapted for the stage and for the screen.

As far as I know, it's all legally uploaded. There is a lot of stuff with Patrick Stewart and David Tennant and other British actors. Lots of good stuff.

His pre-epic filmography is filled with a lot of great stuff. Summertime with Katharine Hepburn is beautiful.
