Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday

Today, May 8th, Sir David turns 100. What a life he has had.

First appeared in the BBC in 1954 when TV was in its infancy in Britain
It is possible that he is ‘the most travelled man in history’ depending on how that is measured
Introduced colour TV while to Britain while Director of Programs.
Was instrumental in getting Monty Python’s Flying Circus on TV
Has has more than 50 species named after him including that of a tiny parasitic worm, Attenboroughculus tau as a 100th birthday present
Resigned from the BBC(after talking to his brother, Lord Richard Attenborough) when he thought he was going to be offered the Director-Generalship of the BBC and realised he would rather be making nature documentaries


My favourite series by him is ‘The Life of Birds’ followed by ‘The Life of Mammals. My favourite clip was him with the gorillas.

Sir David is a true legend, and I've enjoyed his documentaries for a long time. Both of my parents are marine biologists (now retired), and nature documentaries were the first TV shows for general audiences (as opposed to children's TV) that I was allowed to watch.

He has already lived long, but long may he continue to prosper!

Growing up the Life on Earth science series hosted by Sir David was must-see viewing for me. His work over the decades has been nothing short of exemplary.
