The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Connery's Bond could never have retired to The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen because to that he'd need a bloody time machne
The similarities between Connery’s LXG character and Timothy Dalton’s character in Penny Dreadful (which I sort of regard as a live-action LXG but done right) always amused me a little. I can squint and see them as the same guy.

I love James Bond. My favorite movie series of all time.

Love 'em all, even the bad ones - they're so good, especially when they're bad.*

*okay, maybe not Casino Royale '67. But that's about it.

Even Casino Royale '67 has one thing to recommend it: Burt Bacharach's score performed by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. But otherwise, yeah, that's a film I never need to see again.

Kinda funny coincidence the 60's Casino Royale came up; I was just listening to the James Bonding episode about it earlier today, with Maurce LaMarche as a guest. CR'67 was flawed in its conception and especially in execution. Even without Peter Sellers walking off the picture before his scenes were completed, the thing would've been a mess.

Yes, and it ties into YALT and how Ed Harris' villain would've been in Hong Kong at the same time. Basically, the theory is that Harris recognized Bond from the events of YALT and was testing him. Bond/Mason recognized this and lied to throw Harris off.
So, inspired by this thread, and having heard this idea of it being a stealth Bond movie for years, I finally sat down and started The Rock.

…and paused after about twenty minutes, because it’s just so, so Michael Bay. (And the bad overdone “urgent” music annoys me, too.). So I didn’t even get to Connery.

Also, and not to detail the thread, given the size of 1990s military budgets, why not just call his bluff and publicly pay the families involved, directly?

Is it worth pushing through to get there?
