It's a military, but one created in an era of history where humans here on Earth had finally resolved our petty tribal hangups and stopped shooting at and nuking one another. At least 600 million dead and shattered and radioactive cities on every populated continent can do that sort of thing, at least in fiction.

Yeah it's not a viewpoint I agree with lol. Basically the idea that having a military makes you militaristic"Militaries are just fascist tools of The Man and his industrial war machine" can become an old-ass soapbox to die upon. I'm glad other writers, producers and fans can have more nuanced opinions about Starfleet's role in the franchise.
Oh, the Federation frequently sucks and is full of hypocrites. That much didn't change after World War III and First Contact. For all our progress after the 21st century we still fail and badly. But that's part of what makes Trek so engrossing. I'd rather see us fail and do regrettable things like condemn innocent people for living on the wrong side of a border than be some sterile utopian paradise that gets 99% of things right.
Drama is always more interesting than blandness.

That's where he developed his spiel about Star Trek, including being not military. What does this have to do with the topic though?

Have you watched Chaos On The Bridge? It's a documentary about GR told through people that worked with him. It's informative and goes into details being referenced in this thread. What does this have to do with the topic though?

I guess him laughing at my post is a bad sign? Subtlety is so hard on the internet.
