So when does S4 start?

Is it likely a newer production company would make more than 10 episodes a season?
Nope. The number of Eps. and overall budget are decided by Paramount/Skydance.

Some other Streamers like Disney and Amazon Prime do as low a 6 to 8 episodes a season.

lol lol back in the old days 20 episodes were most common in the tv universe and there was even some shows in the tv universe that had 21 to 30 episodes

there are althought still some shows that have 20 to 22 episodes in the tv universe
Yep. If a show is good, 20 episodes is more than warranted. I dare anyone to watch The West Wing or The Xfiles and say that 20 plus episodes a season was too many.

Hell, The Honeymooners only ran for one season but it was 39 episodes. Every single one of them funny. That is almost four seasons in today's landscape.

there are only a few shows that still do the standard 22 episodes a season run

Out of curiosity I decided to get the IMDb ratings for 40 TV series with seasons longer than 15 episodes and check which half of each season scored better on average, the first half or the second half.

Turns out that the two halves are basically the same, with the second half being just a little better. Longer seasons don't typically have a drop in quality and we're actually getting better episodes.

I agree. Personally I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want more of a show that they like. Too each their own I guess. I'll always consider a season from streaming Trek inferior to most seasons from the network or syndication eras for the simple fact that there were far more episodes and much more pressure to deliver ASAP. Any great season from TOS, TNG or DS9 is better than an entire run of any streaming Trek series.

Then there is no point in watching. You know the outcome and it will be inferior.

There's such a thing as satisfaction and not needing more. This applies to entertainment too. Wanting more doesn't make something better.

26 episodes a season was fine for the 90's a& 2000's shows, at least until the last season of TNG when they were running out of ideas.

More episodes gave them the chance to do some really good character shows that were no integral part of any overall arc (DS9 specifically on this one).

With SNW dong 10 ep seasons, they should be able to do more seasons as each season should only cover about 6 months.

Sterling K. Brown had a pretty good explanation of why the streaming model isn't built to afford long seasons - the shift from advertising-supported to subscriber-supported:

What's that? Stop watching to send a message? Why, that's crazy, Mr. Brown? I have it in good authority from fans that the only way to change things is to watch it and bitch about it because we all know content producers read online comments.

I think those are a relic of the twentieth-century and old-fashioned broadcast TV. The whole business model has changed too much over the last few decades.

A relic? You need to step out of your bubble.

Streaming is the only place with that weird format of 8 or 10 episodes.. Most of which have been high budget flops that never found an audience. Network television shows are still doing 20 plus episode seasons and are running much longer and generating far more revenue.

WBs failures in the streaming space are partly why it had to sell. If anything, streaming is going to have to change it's business model because what it's doing now isnt working.
