Is it time to put Star Trek to rest?

David Ellison is on the record as a fan of Trek. He expressed disappointment back during the run up to Into Darkness that the rights issues wouldn't let them make episodic tv trek. There's no way he lets Trek get away without taking his swing at it.

Yeah some people just move on from stuff. I get that. Because as I said I'm at an age now where I realize time is no longer on my side so I really have to pick and choose what I want to watch and rewatch.
Time was never on my side.

I don't have the drive for media as others do. I think I'll have to make peace with it. Watching, rewatching, comparison, and such all feel like oddities to me. I enjoy shows and move on. My favorite film I have not watched in 5 years. Favorite shows are intermittent.

I don't know. I'm at the age were shit stops making sense with what people do.

Is there really a difference? I have a friend who grew up in Germany and she said they had a saying, "if there are 11 people sitting at a table and one of them is a Nazi, then there are 11 Nazis sitting at the table."

It could mean that Ellison thinks politics is politics and entertainment is entertainment. Opportunists will rather do what makes them money, rather than trying to preach to people.

I hear you. I have some favorite films I have not watched in a long time. Things hit differently as we get older. I try to watch some of my favorite movie/tv franchises every 5-10 years all the way through if I can. Farscape, Star Trek, Lost in space, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Buffy, Angel, Mission Impossible (films) Harry Potter,Lotr...

Damn that list is big.... 😂...and not even the whole list.... 😨

Which is exactly why he's the wrong fit for Star Trek.

I'm not worried. The way things are probably going to go in the 2026 and 2028 Elections (thanks to the way Trump is spectacularly screwing things up), I deeply suspect David Ellison is going to go wherever the wind blows. And that wind is blowing towards a Blue Wave. At most, David Ellison will want to make things that appeal to The Center, if he wants to make as much money off audiences as possible. In which case, his actual politics won't matter.

I'd look more closely at whatever the writers and producers do, who'll actually be involved in the day-to-day, the actual creators, not their Corporate Overlords. For all we know, they might try to sneak in their messages and hope it all goes unnoticed by whoever's watching over them.

If what they make turns out to be fascist crap, then I'll be one of the first people to say so.

So, he saw which way the wind was blowing and switched sides? I'm sure it must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

Major Kira would call him "a collaborator".

Including films, the last episode that airs will be the 1001st Star Trek adventure. (There’s more if you count Very Short Treks and Scouts. I choose not to.)

I’m actually not giving up hope on Year One or anything further from Kurtzman. He has said the conversations have been going well. There’s no reason to suggest this is at an end until there’s actual word about it. Maybe that’s naive and too optimistic but that’s where I’m at right now.

With the whole deal/merger business in the works, I can imagine they won't commit to anything long term right now, before that's settled ... so well possible this really is just a pause for the time being, rather than hiatus.

i reckon we're about to see another hiatus of Trek for a few years. After SNW and SFA finish airing.

Maybe thats good. Refresh, retool, come back bigger than ever, when people are starting to miss trek

So you’re saying no one should commit mass suicide, yet?
