E-Book Pricing Alerts

S&S has updated their sale page for February:

TOS: Crucible: Spock: The Fire and the Rose
TOS: Inception
TNG: Before Dishonor
TNG: Greater Than the Sum
TNG: A Time to be Born
TNG: A Time to Love
DS9: Worlds of DS9 #1: Cardassia & Andor
VOY: Spirit Walk #2: Enemy of My Enemy
VAN: Open Secrets
COE: Creative Couplings
MU: The Sorrows of Empire
Signature Edition: Imzadi Forever
Signature Edition: Sand and Stars
Mere Anarchy Omnibus
The Ferengi Rules of Acquisition

Nice to see some more A Time to... books on there.

For our Canadian readers: none of these titles seem to be marked down in Canada yet. We'll see if we get any of these, or if they've just stopped offering sales in Canada altogether. I don't think we ever ended up getting any of the January titles here.

Looks like the discounts aren't active yet, but when they are I'll be adding the two new A Time To books along with Mere Anarchy and Creative Couplings. Paired with the Spock Autobiography that was on sale yesterday that's a lot of new Trek reading for me.

EDIT: Discounts are now live

I picked up the Spock Crucible book. I was salty about it on its release because I disagreed with some of the decisions being made (one big one in particular). I'm a different person now and can accept a lot more.

Looking at the Star Trek Top 50 on Amazon, it seems that quite a few other books are also (still) discounted, including the Hidden Universe travel guide for Vulcan.

For the "A Time to..." books pretty diabolical for them to put 'born', 'sow', 'love', and 'kill' on sale and not 'die', 'harvest', 'hate', or 'heal'. (yet)

(though they did do war/peace already)

The one I don't get is when they only do the second or third book in a trilogy, I could see doing the first book, but it seems odd to do only do the second or third.

I wonder if there is any way we can report the lack of sales as an error. The sales were synchronized before, I see no compelling reason why they shouldn't be now.
There haven’t been any sales either in the UK for the last 2 months.

I can’t really complain given that all but a few (including the most recent releases) are at £2.99.

I have my doubts that it is an “error”. It’s been a week, and no sign of the monthly sales for us, for the second month in a row now. Combined with what @Obsidian_Phil said about the UK, I suspect the new owners have just decided not to bother offering any monthly sales outside the American market.

Am I happy about it? Of course not. If they really have stopped, then it’s the end of an era. I’ve been buying these sale books for years, and it was always something I looked forward to at the start of each month. It was great while it lasted. I’ve mentioned before that I bought these for the convenience of having them in digital form, but only bought the sale ones because I’m not going to pay full price to buy the digital version of books I already own in paper format. So if the sales really are done, this is basically the end of the line for me.

Needless to say, I preferred the previous ownership much more than the new ownership.

If something similar were true here, that would at least take some of the sting out. That’s ~$5.50 Canadian, and while I feel that’s more than I want to spend on something I already own, it’s at least cheaper than what they sell them for here. Admittedly, there are a small handful available for $5.99, but the regular base price seems to be $7.99, with most still more expensive than that. Some of the prices are pretty wild. Just looking at some of the more egregious examples from the US sale list this month:

TNG: Greater Than the Sum - $19.99
VOY: Spirit Walk #2: Enemy of my Enemy - $16.99
CoE: Creative Couplings - $29.99
The Ferengi Rules of Acquisition - $17.99
Mere Anarchy omnibus - $18.99

With all due respect to your doubts, let's make them say no. I certainly understand about corporations and penny pinching but sales of the Star Trek back catalog probably don't amount to a rounding error in the total budget. And I think you and I are on the same page about how we'll buy anything and everything if it's $0.99 but nothing at all if it's $19.99. I wouldn't even care if I had to pay the exchange rate with each book being ~$1.29 in Canada. There's no real reason that I am aware of why a digital product should change prices when crossing a border.

If I can figure out a way to ask them I will. If the answer turns out to be "sucks to be you, Canada" then so be it but I'd love it if this was all just a synchronization problem that they didn't know they had because no one has complained to them directly yet.

Fair enough.

Most definitely. (Well, the sales lately have been $1.99, not $0.99, but your point still stands.)

IIRC, back a few years ago when we did miss a month for the first time (which seems to have just been an odd glitch at the time), I had reached out to them using the contact us form on the S&S Canada page. I seem to recall them being singularly unhelpful at the time, but maybe that's a starting point? I'm not really sure how else to go about it, TBH.
