E-Book Pricing Alerts

I had assumed that Amazon was the problem with my incomplete version of Star Trek: Before Dishonor. Since it is currently $1.99, I purchased the Nook version, and it also cuts off in the same place (the end of Chapter 46). Judging from the sample contents of Google Play and Kobo, the problem is consistent across all formats. I sent in a customer service form with Simon & Schuster, but I have no idea if it will result in anything.

If anyone has newly purchased a version that contains Chapters 47-50, please list who you bought it from.
my kindle version is the same - hell of a place to chop it, too.

I have a hunch that there was some kind of miscommunication when they switched the paper version to print on demand. TPBs usually have less pages than the original mass market. At any rate, I ordered a copy off of eBay to use for the ending in case S&S/Pocket never fixes the e-book issue.

yeah, I had my OG paperback for comparison on hand. So weird.

Just grabbed A Womans Trek from Amazon Kindle US for 4.99

Also regarding the Before Dishonor issue.....thats really weird cuz I REMEMBER reading it again a few years back and those chapters were all there. But I checked my copy today and sure enough they weren't there.

Doesn’t Amazon sometimes – with or without notice – “helpfully” update the e-book in your library with a newer file?

I believe sometimes it’s to reflect editorial fixes or other small changes that wouldn’t merit having to buy a new addition, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t also have some issue where the publisher changed the file that they were licensed to “sell” and inadvertently replaced a good file with a defective one on their store and on anyone’s devices who have downloaded the book.

(Because, remember, you didn’t actually purchase an electronic copy of the book, you were only given a license to the file that Amazon had a license to deliver to you. If Amazon loses the license to sell the book or their licensor (the publisher) tells them to use a different file instead, that can affect your rights in the electronic copy you originally downloaded).

One used to be able to download a backup copy of the ebook from Amazon to a separate computer in addition to one's device. This copy was not changed whenever Amazon fiddled with the files. Unfortunately, Amazon removed this option last year. One of several reasons I switched to Kobo.

Update on Before Dishonor: the issue is fixed on Amazon and Nook (Barnes & Noble) for sure, and probably on other sites
Kindle US user here. Still cut off on both my cloud reader and physical kindle even after delete and redownload. Might take some time for all affected users?

Try checking the sample’s table of contents on the web page. It took a couple of tries for it to show the last chapters there. I was then able to read the full version on the Chrome browser and Kindle for iOS. I’m also a US Kindle user.

The March sale titles for the US are up on the S&S site, although the pricing is not yet live. You get an even-numbered A Time To book (Heal), a couple of Stargazer books, and even The Star Trek Cookbook in this month's lineup.

Edited to add:

There is an Amazon daily deal on The Fifty-Year Mission: The First 25 Years for $2.99 today.

Since no one else has yet, I'm just going to drop the list in here. Since the S&S listing is transient, it's sometimes helpful to have a record of what the monthly titles were if anyone's searching the thread or something.

I think 5 of the 15 are new to the sales, at least from my perspective. Admittedly, it is more difficult to keep track of that we've the fracturing of the sales we've been seeing.

Have you tried clearing the app's cache? I found that sometimes works when issues like this pop up. The more extreme option to is delete all of the app's data, but that also deletes all of you books and log in data. It's a pain in the ass, but there have been a few times that's been the only way I've been to get things working right. A couple times now it's refused to download books I own, and that was the only way I could them to download.
