Picard film in development

The 24/25th century is dead, much like the 23rd will be once SNW runs its course. Hope everyone likes the 32nd century!

For now. The 23rd century would have been declared dead in the period between TUC and JJTrek. Same for the 24th century between Nemesis and Picard/Lower Decks. I think they will focus on the 32nd century right now, but things can always change.

According to them, they are focusing on the 32nd century for this month and next, then the 23rd sometime later this year, then making a movie that supposedly does not take place in the prime universe at all. The jury’s out on if that third thing is actually going to happen.

Are they making this? Stewart isn't getting any younger.
This movie idea was for some reason tied to Legacy, in that the first season of Legacy would lead to a Picard movie. No one at Paramount ever tried to correct the record and say something along the lines of, 'no, its the film first, then Legacy.' And clearly, Legacy never got off the ground, which meant this movie never got off the ground either. And frankly, it always made more sense for anything PIC-related to lead into Legacy anyways as a torch passing moment. It's technically already been done with PIC S3. A PIC-movie would be a victory lap, right down to emulating the energy of S3.

Then we get news that Paramount wants a streaming movie, while Stewart wants a theatrical release. NEM was a bomb at the box office, and Paramount just cannot get a theatrical Star Trek film going since BEY, but PIC S3 was a success on streaming. Yet Paramount has not gone forwards with anything. Even though if the Picard movie was a streaming movie, Frakes directing it would probably avoid the pitfalls that both the S31 movie and NEM had.

There's also the fact that if its a Picard movie, then that likely means:

a) the hero ship will probably be La Sirena - not any Enterprises - and either the TNG crew or the Legacy crew (Shawlogram included) joining him (with the other crew operating in supportive role) for one last mission. Even though the Ent-D bridge is in storage somewhere.

b) it will probably involve the Borg in some capacity, even if its just Picard teaming with Jurati and the Collective, since PIC was meant to be a Borg show.

c) it still has to fit the experimentation requirement Stewart wants to reprise the role again.

Fans are so content with PIC S3 being the sendoff that I do not think the film will happen in any capacity. There's nothing left to be said about Picard, and no real reasons for it beyond it being a backdoor pilot for Legacy. And maybe making sure NEM isn't the last movie featuring the TNG cast.

At the same time, if it was cancelled - especially pending Stewart's upcoming retirement - you'd think Paramount would say so already.
