This has shades of the reaction to Tuvok and being a black Vulcan to it. And alien race must only look like the one we're familiar with, with no variation. Heaven forbid we see any measure of phenotypical variations in other aliens like humans!


If you change Betazoid eye color you might end up with taller Betazoids, or dwarf Betazoids, or albino Betazoids, blonde hair Betazoids! Dogs and cats living together!

Same, to be honest. I never noticed this as a kid watching the show. I think I only learned about this when I first read about it on the internet in the early 2000s.

I’ll be honest. I never noticed the Betazoid black eye color thing. So it really matters little to me anyway.

Still seems awfully fast on an evolutionary scale. Just because you may have some external breeding doesn't mean the genes quit being present and handed down.

After Romulans developing pronounced head ridges in less than 2,000 years I'm totally cool with some Betazoids having brown and not black eyes in just 800 years.

Even in Star Trek. Klingon traits are very dominant.


Even in humans we see interesting trait presentation with Temura Morrison having a sister with blonde hair.

Why? We still carry Neanderthal genes and they still sometimes come to the fore, even 40,000 years later.

We really don't know when Vulcans/Romulans developed ridges. We only know that they can pass for each other, Spock on Romulus/Robin Curtis on Vulcan.

Just funny that a franchise that throws money at pretty much everything, except light bulbs, would flub this.

Although a $46 million Star Trek movie left an airlock scene so unfinished that you could see the soundstage ceiling and rafters for years and years until digital effects finally edited them out. Old Trek is just as guilty of overlooking small details even if not moreso.
