Are There Remakes You Like More Than Their Originals?

Well, I can't come up with many, so I wanted to know what everyone else is thinking. Generally they are of lower quality. But there are some better versions:

I prefer the 1978 remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" to the orignal 1956 version. Mostly because of the actors, I guess.

I also like the 2002 adaptation of Harris' "Red Dragon" more than its predecessor "Manhunter" (1986). Again, because of the superior actors (sorry, William Petersen) and generally higher production values.

Kind of an obvious example, but I like the new "Battlestar: Galactica" way more than its original version — and that's an understatement.

So, what do you think?

The 2001 Ocean's Eleven is superior to the original film. Cronenberg's The Fly was pretty good. Little Shop of Horrors, definitely. Probably The Thing, too.

I prefer the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers... but the remake's very good. Frankly, one of the best endings I've seen in any horror film, knocked my socks right off the first time.

Anyway, I prefer the two Charlton Heston Biblical epics - The Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur - to the 1920s silents which they are remakes of; an odd admission given my tastes tend towards silents in general.

I'd agree with The Fly and Invasion of the Bodysnatchers too. Can't really think of any others, though. Hmm...

I'll agree with The Thing, The Fly and Red Dragon. I also really like the recent remake of The Hills Have Eyes with Emilie de Ravin.

Obviously, Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica is the first thing that springs to mind.

George Clooney's Ocean's Eleven is better than the Frank Sinatra version.

Harrison Ford's Sabrina blows Humphrey Bogart's out of the water.

And while neither version of Battlestar Galactica does much for me, the new far outstrips the old on every level.

The new Ocean's Eleven is far better than the Rat Pack original... however Ocean's Twelve was everything they criticized the 1960 Ocean's for being.

The Departed is better than Infernal Affairs.

The Italian Job remake is better than the original.

I don't know if you can say the new Thomas Crown Affair is that much better than the original, but it's definitely different and very well done. A lot has to do with Pierce Brosnan being more comfortable in that type of role than Steve McQueen.

On the other end of things, all those PG-13 remakes of R-rated horror movies NEED TO STOP!

I can only agree as to The Fly. Profoundly disagree as to the rest, especially The Thing From Another World.

At the risk of being chased out of here by a mob weilding picthforks and torches, I'm going to say that I liked Speilberg's War Of The Worlds more than the original... This movie was only peripherally about an alien invasion... it was more about a man stepping up to beinga better father.

Planet of the Apes, I like the twist at the end, the Lincoln Memorial was an ape as were all the cops etc.
Walberg's expression was priceless.
The make up and costumes were excellent, far better than the Original.
and it was kinda cool to see Charlton Heston cameo as and Ape, and the original Nova too.
with the "cold war over I don't think the 1968 ending would work today.

Yep, same here. I find it annoying how some fans of the original claim it's Galactica in name only. It still has the same premise and general idea as the original.
