New StarGate series Prime Video.

If this new show is successful, I think Amazon won't stop at just one show and will continue with spin-off shows like they did with The Boys. If it doesn't succeed, they'll try their luck with 'theatrical' films.

If it doesn't succeed, that'll be it for the Stargate franchise.

Yeah, if it isn't succesfull they'll never waste a dollar on a movie.

Dune wasn't a reboot. Just new movies based on the novels. It's a completely different situation.
I know, it's just that Hollywood has this obsession with rebooting every work, so even if this new Stargate show doesn't do well, I think they'll try again as a 'theatrical' film in 10-12 years. But hopefully this new show will be successful and a really good one.

After many series with a male wise cracking leader apart from stargate universe are we open to accepting a female team leader?

Who would have the same charm and ability to carry a show?

Any actresses that we can think of?

Side note. If they go back to filming in Canada I can’t wait to go back to the

“Spot the actor you’ve seen in a dozen other shows filmed in Canada” game

Hopefully Kristen Kreuk can have a role somewhere

Season 8?

If the character is well written and interesting, I don't care about it's gender/race and whatnot...

to say it with Sam Carter's words from Children of the Gods from SG1's first episode:
"“I’m an Air Force officer just like you are, Colonel. And just because my reproductive organs are on the inside instead of the outside doesn’t mean I can’t handle whatever you can handle.”"

I seriously hope it's produced again in Canada, for nostalgia and because it's awesome there. If money isn't an issue, globe spanning production would be epic however, think Iceland, Egypt Pyramids and such.

Wherever it's produced, I'm fine with local acting talent, as long as the main team members or main acting talent isn't all from the same village (or the same planet JK) ;)

They said they’re going to be able to do things they couldn’t do before.

Balancing what they want to do VS what they’re going to have for budget here’s what I see.

First few episodes will be shot overseas for the wonder. Actually filming in Egypt

Later on it will be shot close by to conserve budget

I'm 90% certain they will probably film in Vancouver, at least have their standing sets built there. Martin Gero is running the show, and IIRC most shows he was worked on or even run have all been produced in Vancouver. Maybe they might get a bit more ambitious about location shoots besides the omnipresent Vancouver pine forest that dominated every galaxy seen in the other Stargate shows.

As for the SG team leader, I wouldn't be too shocked if they did decide to go with an O'Neill or Sheppard style sarcastic smartass who is instead a woman. And/or the commander of the SGC is a woman. Hell, Carter should be a General by now, they can have her running the SGC.

Hell, Carter should be a General by now, they can have her running the SGC.

Writers and viewers of fiction tend to assume that every main character in a military cast should naturally end up as a starship captain or admiral or general eventually, but in reality, a military is a pyramidal structure with any single person of higher rank in command of a large number of people of lower rank, so there are fewer openings for promotion the higher you go. So only a fraction of military officers would ever get to command or flag rank, and the vast majority would muster out of the service at lower ranks. For most people, the military isn't a lifelong career, but a stepping stone to a civilian career. Carter was always more a scientist than a soldier or bureaucrat, so I think a better career path for her would have been to retire from the military and become an accomplished researcher/professor building on the discoveries she made with the SGC.

But then, this is fiction, and fiction often compromises credibility for the sake of keeping the familiar cast together. So it's possible they could cast Carter as a general and the head of the SGC. But by this point, I'd like to believe the Stargate program has gone public and is administered by a global coalition of some sort rather than being a secret military project. So maybe we could have a civilian Doctor Carter as the head administrator of the entity overseeing Stargate travel and space research.

@Christopher
True. They have kind of followed the real age of the people, Amanda is 60 now, Richard is in his 70's unless a special exemption has been made Jack has retired long ago as a general, and Amanda if same reached General level is a few years out from forced retirement at 64.

Doesn't mean they can't be around as civilian contractors. I could see her in charge of say Area 51or something.

I'm more interested if the Gate is public knowledge yet or not. THey were thinking about it 15 years ago.

I was talking about that earlier in the thread and as I recall, somebody said it was public later in the series. I could imagine by now there are paid Stargate tours. Take people to "safe" planets for like a trip, kind of a variation on Jurassic Park. Go to have fun, but oops -- something tries to kill you.

I hope the Stargate program is not (yet) public and either going to be revealed to the world during the show's run including ramifications, shenanigans, power plays and all or not specified should the show take place primarily offworld/in another Galaxy.

So something like first episode, President is about to revele the program, how we've come "THS CLOSE" to total anihalation.. and somethng happens... AND IF ITS TIME TRAVEL I"M TURNING IT OFF.. Universe wacked that mole till it was a rotting corpse..

Stargate Park?

We have a military lead or ex military dad and his family using the stargate because it's become public knowledge. The stargate sends them into the past

"Sir, the horse is still twitching!"

"Whack that son of a bitch horse, just keep whacking! Whacky smacky!"

I'm optimistic, but Amazon doesn't have the best track record with shows lasting more than a couple of seasons, especially bigger budget ones.

I honestly wish that Apple had the rights as they've done a great job with science fiction.

I saw something a day or two ago that SG-1 was going to be on Netflix. So does that mean it's not on Prime video anymore or on both?

I wonder if that helps or hurts possible specific appearances/references in a new Stargate show? Maybe it being on Netflix actually adds some newer/return viewers and helps a new Amazon series?
