Keeping Tasha

Another option could’ve been to keep Worf in gold as chief of security and put Tasha in red, splitting tactical off from security entirely. Tasha would be the chief tactical officer—maybe even promoted to lieutenant commander (hey, it’s my fever dream). Honestly, they really should’ve separated security and tactical. I know Sisko jokes about how Worf loves being overworked, but come on—security, tactical, and handling the hailing frequencies? Poor guy.

But yeah. Why not? Tasha in red could’ve totally worked, and it might’ve even put her on track for a promotion if one of the brass ever got transferred off the ship.

A boy can dream...

Let me get Photoshop out to do a recolor... these will be quick and dirty, like my ex...

(There's a slight orange tinge and I took less time moving Worf over to Medical. but still... now Worf and Beverly can now bicker until Data shuts himself off too.)

The red is a little oversaturated (my bad but whipped all of these up in under 15 minutes in ye olde Photoshoppeth), but I'm so glad that they swapped gold and red since TOS had a plethora of "red shirt death" jokes long before 1987...

I think Data and Yar might have had relationship issues once his brother tried to kill, you know, everybody.

Lore as Data: "Sir, I suggest we beam a large tree into space and destroy it to prove our might."

Yar: In a low voice, "I know where I'd like to beam that large tree..."

Between "The Naked Now" and "Justice", it's way too easy to see why she left faster than a bowling ball down a ski slalom having been freshly greased. It's sad when even "Symbiosis" gives her better dialogue, and "Skin of Evil" is underrated in the handling of her character.

It could be worse: There was never a moment when Wesley could be walking by, glance quickly, then come in and take out an entire group of marauding space shellfish with a crab claw cracker while saying "Just think of the solution, it's that easy!".

Also, never ever title your episode with the word "Now" in it, anywhere. Here's why, especially 0.0000000000000000001 seconds after the title is shown on screen:

I'm pretty well ok with that arrangement, from a technical perspective. It still doesn't change the reality that she wasn't likely to get featured very well, personally, being one of the least interesting characters. Data, Worf, Troi & even Geordi had way more sci-fi rizz.

It would only work imho if they'd never made Data #2. If you had Picard, Riker & Yar as the top 3, then this configuration works, and everybody else is support, who are ultimately much more interesting lol

Agreed. It never really made much sense that they were combined anyway. Tactical/Armory are engineers/technicians (unless you also separate out those roles), whereas Security are operators/specialists.

Not in S1, but certainly by mid to late series as LaForge was.

Voyager got it right with Communications being part of Operations, IMO.

DSC went a bit OTT with two Bridge Operations Officers, a Communications Officer and a Tactical Officer, but SNW isn't quite as bad with a Navigator (who can double as Tactical), Communications Officer and Tactical Officer (typically manned by the Security Chief if at all).

In my fever dream, Riker’s the one who leaves the ship, which would make Yar the new XO because—again, in this same fever dream—she’d already been promoted to lieutenant commander. Yes, that technically overlooks Data, since he’s the second officer and next in line, but maybe they talked it over and Data was like, “You know, it’s such a great fever dream, let’s roll with it. I’ll stay at Ops.” Ever the understanding android and all.

Red looks amazing on her! Love this! :adore:

Was Data actually confirmed as being Second Officer in S1?

I mean logically he probably should have been, but I sometimes thought that Yar was actually depicted as next-in-line after Riker.

To quote Memory Alpha:

During a second encounter with the Ferengi that year, Data was introduced to Bok by Captain Jean-Luc Picard as his "second-in-command", after Bok's own second officer was Rata was introduced. (TNG: "The Battle").

As noted above Data was referred to by Picard as his "second-in-command" (rather than "third-in-command") during the same introduction of Riker as his "first officer", both are the same title.

On several occasions thereafter, he was introduced as the ship's second officer. (TNG: "First Contact", "Time's Arrow", "Starship Mine")

And from the transcripts of Starship Mine:

RIKER: Mister Data, I don't know if you've had a chance to meet ourhost, Commander Hutchinson. Call him Hutch. Lieutenant Commander Data, our second officer.

But yes - in season 1, we only have the snippet from The Battle.

Yellow never suited her imho. Even Data wore it better lol. Geordi was the only one to ever pull off the yellow suit. Everybody else looks better in the red or blue. Even Picard didn't look bad in the blue suit... But if you put him in the yellow? :barf2:

I was so happy about Tasha in red that I completely missed Worf in blue. :D :D

Dr. Worf, M.D., OBGYN. "Today is a good day to PUSH!"

I didn't assume he was a physician. I assumed standard bridge science officer. We see them on the back consoles all the time. Having one be a regular cast member would be a terrific idea
