Are you "aging out" of Star Trek?

I just don't 'click' with any Trek since Disco aired to be honest.

I quite liked the reboot movies if I'm honest, they showed some respect to the source material. And Lower Decks works for what it is.

Interesting. I thought DISCO was a breath of fresh air, the first Trek series since DS9 that wasn't just a retread of TNG, but seriously tried to do something new and different with the concept. I liked that it didn't look or feel like Berman-era Trek, but like a modern, 21st-century take on Trek.

But, yes, I quite liked the Kelvin movies as well. Especially the first and third ones.

I think I'm the odd one out. I really liked STID because it discussed the Prime directive and it was really about how America had lost it's way post 9/11 with drone strikes and needed to row back from that. But then VI is my favorite TOS movie for the allegory too (man I love that film).

If you are the author Greg Cox, I really liked the Rings of Time too!

I'm 62. I've been a fan for more than fifty years. If there was a time when I might have come close to giving up on Star Trek, it would have been the late Berman years. Discovery got me more excited about Star Trek than anything since DS9 went off the air and I've generally enjoyed the current era.

Sorry guys but unless you're watching every episode of Star Trek Scouts, you've already aged out of Trek.

They're pretty short, so I'm letting them pile up and I'll go through a bunch eventually. Hell, if they put them out on blu ray, I'll buy it. I've got all of Voyager and Enterprise, after all.

I’m not sure if it’s age or just down to taste. I’m a rare specimen who actually quite enjoyed Discovery when it arrived, it felt fresh and exciting (until it wasn’t). The producers have tried to cater too much to the most vocal elements of the fandom and pretty much everything has come to feel like Trek by focus group. I’m not really enjoying any of it now and stick to my old blu rays and dvds of TOS to DS9.

At 79, I’m a Trek OG. I was 20 when it began and have watched every nanosecond on TV or movies. I am certainly not “aging out”.
You've seen at least twice as much as I have. Do you have three major disappointments regarding the franchise as a whole? (Hopefully not AMOK TIME, DOOMSDAY MACHINE or CAPTAIN'S HOLIDAY!);)

I grew up on Star Trek, TOS as a youngster, TNG as a younger adult, then DS9, VOY... later I even watched ENT... but I'm not into cartoons, Discovery was painful and I dropped it after the first few episodes. I watched the first season of SNW but loved all three seasons of Picard. But now as a senior citizen, I'm finding I just can not seem to bite on the new stuff. Am I the only one who has issues with the new stuff or just a basic, meh?

I think I'm just aging out of tv altogether. There is so much new stuff produced on a scale that has never happened before it's just too much to keep up with. Most streaming TV shows run for only 4 seasons max now and 10 episodes a season. So there is constantly new stuff to watch and keep track of. Im finding the older I get I just don't have the time to invest in a dozen original programs per year. So I mostly watch older stuff for comfort "food" and started to watch documentaries AND I also have National Geographic mailed to me again. I want to read from actual paper... 😂 I'm just tired of the oversaturated tv landscape. I'm tired of investing in new shows that either get cancelled with cliffhangers or are so short I cannot really get into them.

New Trek on a whole has been pretty awful. There were some bright spots but even those were not extraordinary. I have seen so much in my lifetime it's hard to wow me.

I watched Picard, Disco and SNW. I probably will never watch Prodigy or Lower Decks.
