And another Brosnan-era death, with the passing of Lee Tamahori, who directed Die Another Day. https://variety.com/2025/film/news/...rMheNqn2c1DHB2KpY0_aem_8MaHSylBCCvRKMFA7WMw9Q
The prologue was excellent. A shane the script for the rest of the film was trash.Tamahori directed by most favorite Bond prologue. And was no slouch in the remainder.
Everything went downhill once the invisible car was introduced. It became another movie entirely. Almost like it was studio mandated
Exec-It’s too boring. What if the car turned invisible and the villains lair was made of ice. The villain also wears a body armor that shoots force lightning. Bond cgi surfs on a ice roadsters door
I remember people complaining about Bond escaping in the ice roadsters and then having to go back into the ice castle. That’s movie cliche 101
I demand multiple Barry Nelson homages now now, with no cute allusions to AIRPORT or THE SHINING.I always saw the first hour in Cuba, Hong Kong and North Korea as the Connery homage, then London, Iceland and the DMZ as the Moore homage

If I’m honest, and not being influenced by which ones I’m “supposed” to like best, GoldenEye is probably my second favorite Bond movie (surpassed only by The Living Daylights).30 years ago this weekend.
Bond was back.

That's really interesting. Good to know Tim was still part of the conversation till quite late on.Great retrospective here on the making of Goldeneye:
Although it pretty much belies the story that it was his decision to quit (which was never convincing, IMHO).That's really interesting. Good to know Tim was still part of the conversation till quite late on.
