Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

I still don't see that quote. He hasn't posted anything Doctor Who related recently. Unless he posted on the BBC post in the comments but I didn't see it there. Granted, Instagram's comment section is a pain in the ass.

I've only just started watching the recent season and i'm currently 3 episodes in and I love it. It's feels like Doctor Who 2005-2017 again and the midnight sequel was excellent. I love a scary monster episode. If they can keep this up then the future of Who should be safe - Just keep it like it was under late RTD and all of Moffatt.

Disney really blew it. But I guess if you're not a hit right out of the gate in the U.S. on Disney+, you don't have a chance.

I guess in a year or so we'll get the news on whoever is taking on the role of the nth Doctor. I just hope it is not a year plus between the 2026 Christmas Special and the next season.

I think they were actually pretty fair to them. They went all in on trying to make the show work. Brought back Tennant and then RTD. Not to mention Donna. They seemed to have a good budget. The show just didn't get the ratings. Lot of damage was done by Chibnall. RTD wasn't on his game quit as much as he was the first time around. I think people were just burned out and still angry about The TImeless Child, and yes some elements of sexism and homophobia also factors in this as well.

Sure the season finales have been shite, but overall the Ncuti seasons had some fab episodes, and definitely more good than bad.

lol like i have said before what if the 16th doctor aka the rose tyler lookalike companion is the 10th doctor aka 14th doctor who resently retired as the doctor and living on earth after he biogengerated to the 15th doctor

in other words what if dave tennant is the companion to billie piper

There's no way that S3 is coming out before Autumn 2027. What I think is reasonable to expect is a thanksgiving and a christmas special in 2027 followed by a new season spring 2028.
Writing scripts takes time, casting, contracts, episode counts. I think BBC is desperately looking for another source of funding, I don't know if they can do a 12 episode season at ~$2.5 mil but a 10 episode season is not unreasonable.

Considering how fickle streamers are, the BBC would be smart to have a distribution clause to shop elsewhere if Amazon wants to drop the show after a couple of years. Dunno if simply licensing the broadcast like BBC America did would be a thing with streamers

They wouldn't shoot 10 episodes with a budget of $2.5 million My guess is that current British series are only being produced for $1-2 million per episode. Doctor Who could be shot for that kind of money, too.

IIRC the Moffat/Chibnall episodes were about 1.5 each, give or take. I remember TNG back in the day was like almost $2 mil per episode.

I find it unlikely that Tennant would return so soon. I wouldn't object to a cameo if it's done well, but honestly DW has to return to it's roots. With Billie in the role I'd at least keep her for a season, may as well make her the 15th Doctor permanently at this point.

I think bringing back the Fugitive Doctor would be fantastic.

Nicola Methaven of The Mirror (the one with the most accurate scoops) is saying it is believed the special will also be RTD's last episode for the franchise

Nothing about that is a shock. It's been speculation for over half a year.

I could see RTD bowing out at that point, but I don't think BBC will drop Bad Wolf so easily. I am under the impression that licensing out production makes things a bit easier for the BBC. I think its more probably that RTD+Beeb will find a successor to be showrunner/head writer under Bad Wolf productions.
