At least it wasn't a shutout.

5-3 Penguins, actually. I was at that game.

I'm a Pens fan, but I usually like the Senators. Not this time, though. They were taking dirty potshots every chance they got. It's a shame, because they're usually not the sort of team to pull that crap.

And wow, Gerber was awesome. Poor bastard slipped a bit on the winner.

He really did do a great job, considering the Pens had 54 shots on goal. 4 goals (the last was an empty netter) isn't that bad considering what the Pens were throwing at him. He made some awesome saves.

Anyone catch the Caps-Flyers game? I missed the first period and a bit of the second but what I did see was spectacular. A Caps 2-1 lead becomes a 4-2 deficit only to have the Caps rally in the third (Ovechkin was on a mission--fitting that he got the game winner). If only all playoff games were that exciting.

Perhaps you mistake me for a Leafs fan? I have the misfortune of living in Leafland, but my heart is not stained so black as that!

I think the Sens played their best game in Game 2. Lacking Fish and Alfie, that's what they are capable of, and Pittsburgh still managed to pull it out. I think that's the kind of loss that destroys a team's comfidence. Had they won, maybe it snowballs into an upset. I just have a hard time believing now that they come back from down two games.

No, I was just commenting that if there was a quota system, the Leafs would have won at least one Stanley Cup in the past four decades. Nothing to do with you at all.

Lacking Fish and Alfie, that's what they are capable of, and Pittsburgh still managed to pull it out. I think that's the kind of loss that destroys a team's comfidence. Had they won, maybe it snowballs into an upset. I just have a hard time believing now that they come back from down two games.

I think if they can get one of the injured players back on the ice, then they've got a shot.

So watching the Habs Bruins games, it seems the refs decided to let Boston do whatever it wants without penalization.

Well my Rangers are 2-0 so far. Now come the home games! I can't wait to watch my first game tomorrow as they didn't air the first two here. That first goal by Jagr in the third was a thing of beauty.

The Habs had plenty of power plays.

They just didn't score during them.

What game were you watching? During the second, refs are looking directly at a Bruins clearly hooking and tripping and no calls.

Cheer hard! The Preds need it after these last two games. I wish I could go to either game that is in Nashville this week but having a full case load at work prevents even thinking about it. Oh, well, I will watch at home!

I wouldn't count the Senators out. They turned around a hell of a lot from game one. The Pens have a habit of getting sloppy in the middle of the game and Ottawa did a great job of taking advantage of that in Game 2.

Actually, the Preds could probaly use refs who aren't secretly wearing Detroit underoos. Babcock should watch what he says about not criticizing the refs for being incompetent, because the alternative is actually less savory. For the record, I choose "incompetent."

I was at the game last night (seven rows up from the ice). The Habs powerplay was well contained by the Bruins (who played their best game of the year against the Habs) and the refs were ATROCIOUS. They missed several obvious calls against the Bruins and "made up" them with highly questionable calls against the Bruins in OT (one was a missed penalty--Markov should have gotten a high sticking call just before he fell when Reich tapped his skates and got called for a penalty that was totally undeserved (I was 20 feet or so from the play).

The refs also blew delayed penalty calls (whistling the play dead twice when the Habs were bearing down after pulling Price and once when Boston pulled Thomas). They were bad for both teams, but the Bruins did not deserve to lose on that overtime power play. But, what's done is done and the Bruins, having put up their best possible effort and still having lost, must now be quite demoralized. I can't see how they'll win a game now (and that's just fine).

I've been trying to hold this is but since you brought it up I might as well say it. These refs calling these games are awful. The best example was Game 2 of the Calgary/San Jose series where San Jose got like 10 minuates of power play time. Now, I'm a Sharks fan and I'm glad they won but I don't like seeing all these penalties being called in the playoffs. One thing I loved about Stanley Cup Hockey is that the intensity is grown even more to the point that it seems like calls you would get in the regular season, you wouldn't get in the playoffs. The hitting is harder, the action is tighter and it's a bunch of exciting hockey. With these refs, it's like if anyone breaths the wrong way it's a penalty. I still like where these playoffs are going and what we've seen so far in the first week, but the officiating has been a joke all across the board.
