Star Trek: Lower Decks wins two Hugos

In Trek news, the Lower Decks finale won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. This is the first Trek series to win a Hugo Award since TNG's finale.

The Lower Decks Choose Your Own Adventure graphic novel Warp Your Own Way also won the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story or Comic.

Huh, I didn't see that coming.

This was already discussed earlier today in the general discussion thread, but I think you got it right: Good news like these do deserve their own thread. :)

Apparently both “Fissure Quest” and “The New Next Generation” were both nominated in the category “Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form”. Here’s Mike McMahan’s short acceptance speech for the award for “The New Next Generation”. Personally I think “Fissure Quest” was the better episode and probably would have deserved it a little more, but I guess the fact that “The New Next Generation” was the finale had a bit to do with the win as well. I’m just glad the show got honored this way.

What’s also interesting is that Lower Decks was the only animated show in that category, beating all other live action nominees.

Congrats to the Lower Decks finale. It was a great finale, though I just wish we had more. I want to see more adventures with Captain Ransom and Beckett and Boimler as Co first officers.

Yes, Lower Decks competing with ITSELF for a Hugo Award is either a sign of a truly fantastic season or there was paltry competition this year or both. :)

I am going to damn myself forever by the fact that if I'd been a judge, I probably would have voted for Fallout, though.

This is fantastic news, and definitely own-thread-worthy! Hopefully this recognition means we'll see more of Lower Decks in some form or other (as well as the comics & graphic novels etc.).

"Soo, one of your last actions was to cancel a show that won A HUGO, the freaking Oscars of the SF community, because why?"

Is a conversation I'd love to hear

I'd feel bad for Strange New Worlds, though.

But it does kind of make Lower Decks a fascinating part of Trek canon that the semi-parody is up there with TNG.

Fallout would have been a great choice too. That was a season that gave me so many emotions from episode to episode. I still remember the moment the show turned from outright violence to downright weird (episode 6) and then the twists and reveals at the end made it all worth it. And the only reason I watched the show was because of Star Trek Prodigy and Ella Purnell. Now I can't wait till the second season.
