I love the concept of this, especially the setting post Discovery when Starfleet has to rebuild from the ground up but can reach back to a grand legacy and draw inspiration from it. Imagine being a cadet in that era tasked with building the core of a once legendary organization and become part of that legacy.

The trailer did what it had to do - it picked my curiosity. I love the sprinkled in references to the older shows from James T. Kirk to DS9 and the Doc from Voyager even managed to keep his program together through all of the centuries it seems and we now have Klingons and even Jem'hadar attending the academy. This should be fun and i always loved the bits and episodes over the years where the characters talked about their academy time or outright went there.

Some of that looked like the work of AI.

And....Sisko's fate?

What do you mean?
We first noticed it in the photos Entertainment Weekly posted yesterday, but it can also be seen in the 47 second mark of the trailer, a wall of names of a bunch of characters from across the franchise which some are speculating is supposed to be a memorial wall of dead Starfleet officers. Though if it is, then a lot of Berman era characters did not get any further promotions.

But why keep it upstairs? are we too good for that here, like discussing whether the DS9 crew can swim or not?

Ah ok.

Exactly! I am proud to be a downstairs person, a night dweller, a Morloc, distrustful of everything i can't fart on.

1. Every character who didn’t die permanently should’ve reached admiral by the time frame of this show. Why is Data still a LTCMDR?

2. How is this the first class when we saw cadets in DSC? Where they a ‚test run‘?

3. As asked above, where’s Tilly? They gotta have to explain her absence because DSC says she serves there longer than anyone else in history (which btw is silly, was there no Axanarri staff?)

cos that was his rank at the time of Nemesis.

Had he survive and succeed Riker as first officer he would have gotten the 3rd full pip.

The one that bothers me the most on that Name Wall is seeing Culber up there. Is this franchise seriously going to kill him off again?

I'm surprised that some core characters have remained at rather low ranks, Lt. Bashir for example or Lt. Paris. With Paris at least i could have seen him leave Starfleet after Voyager's return ( don't read ST novels so i don't know what happened to him post Voyager) to pursue other careers but what happened to Julian? Did he also leave Starfleet for some reason after DS9 ended?

In either case it's just a blink and you'll miss it moment i'm sure and one shouldn't read too much into it but we're on a Star Trek message board, it's in our DNA to overanalyze every last frame of every show that ever existed.
