Last Classic Who Story you watched

Rewatched Robots and Resurrection last night after The Story and the Engine. Very easy to see Robots as part of the Blake's 7 universe.

I did notice some of Tom's episodes aren't on the iPlayer Whoniverse list... Terror of the Zygons... any idea why that's left out specifically?
It is still on BritBox, at least in the US.
. A weak start to Robert Holmes Who career, but he did nail The Doctor and companions right off the back and of course he goes on to be probably the best Classic who writer.
I thought the phrase was "right off the bat", that's how I've been saying it for the past 30+ years, and no one has ever corrected me.

The Krotons has not been colorized. All versions are in the native B&W.

Yes, all the Troughton restorations are in their original B&W, but i am sure i remember a few Pertwee restoration dvds that had the odd B&W mixed in with the colour episodes, and i can't remember the reason given on the extras, as they were quite good at taking found episodes from around the world and fixing them right up, but no doubt money might have been one of the facts as over the years it was touch and go at times for them to continue restoring the show.

Oh and not to go too far off topic when it comes to restoring old UK shows, i just found out a restoration of the 70s cop show The Sweeny has been completed and is about to release on BR, now if only someone would go and restore the Will Hay movies, then we will be sorted.

Well there were some Pertwee episodes that were originally shot in color but those prints were lost. The BBC only had the B&W versions (from overseas I believe) for awhile. Those have all be recolorized on the DVDs and Blu-Rays. DW & the Silurians, Mind of Evil, and Planet of the Daleks are three that come to mind. There are probably others.

The War Games is a Troughton story that was originally shot in B&W but has since been colorized.

The agreement with the original writers estate to allow it on the platform came to an end.
Yep. The Banks Stewart estate couldn't agree terms with the BBC (the serials were made long before streaming was an idea, so the contracts don't automatically include rights, whereas VHS, DVD and blu-ray may be covered under resale rights). For An Unearthly Child, the writer's son has a beef with the BBC.

I wanna say Invasion of the Dinosaurs, too... yep, ep 1 of that serial got junked in like 1974, so the only copy they have of it is a B&W recording. They've tried coloring it as best they can for the DVD release, but the copy is missing the 'blue' chroma-dot information, so it doesn't look the best on DVD and was only included in color as a bonus feature. I don't know if they've improved since then - I think they'd have to hand color the blue on everything for that one episode.

Invasion of the Dinasaurs, i think that is the one with 1 episode on the restoration DVD that is still in B&W, i vaguely remember a dinasaur in a garage with a landrover in B&W for some reason. lol

And you'd be right, I was just being a doofus. Its definitely "right off the bat", I have no idea why I put "back".

I'm gonna be watching The Rani stories now that we know she's Mrs. Flood.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I really liked The Mark of the Rani. It has a few goofy elements but I found her to be a threatening villain, and the story does a good job of making her unique and not just a female version of The Master. I'm...less enthusiastic about Time and The Rani, the nicest thing I can say about it is that its not the worst 7th Doctor story, at least in my opinion.

Back on the main topic, I watched The Reign of Terror. It was absolute garbage, and a great example of why most of the pure historicals just didn't work (a few exceptions, like The Aztecs, excluded). This also really suffered from being 6 Episodes long, they did not have the story for that length. Maybe if someone cared about the French revolution they'd get more out of it, but a good Doctor Who story doesn't require that. The same writer would go on to write the much more solid historical The Romans in the next season, which notably was only four episodes, and The Time Meddler which is also good and I think is the first example of the "pseudo-historical" in Doctor Who.

When the Doctor and Ace spoke about their last adventure together being "that business with the Rani", or words to the effect.

That’s terrible. Even if you’re putting DiT into canon, having that be their last adventure not only screws with the tenuous web of off-screen media that is occasionally made to work, but makes no sense in the context of Power of the Doctor either.

I mean… have it so the Rani constructed the Albert Square trap from people’s memories of a pop culture fiction, much like a memory Tardis is made or something.

I think the two scenes fit together pretty well. In the Tales of the TARDIS scene they get to go into a little more depth about what happened between them than they were able to in the heat of the moment during Power of the Doctor. TotT implies that there was a heated discussion / argument / disagreement following the events of DiT and Ace left.

As for supplemental material, I never put those into consideration when new canonical material is concerned. As much as I loved the old Star Wars EU and the Star Trek novel verse, I had no illusions nor desire to see the books adapted to screen.

As for the soap opera of it all, I can honestly say that my only exposure to that soap opera has been from Dimensions in Time itself, so therefore I can just write those people off as any other people who were caught in a bizarre situation with the Doctor and no different than Mike and Gary from last night.
