I got into Star Wars with the original trilogy, but the novels and the comics are what kept my interest up through the '90s. However, unlike many, I never really held to the notion that this was all "canon set in stone". My first thought about hearing the specifics of Lucasfilms levels of tiered-canon, was that, "Okay these things are canon until contradicted by something in the 'A' tier. Therefore, not set in stone canon." When Clone Wars contradicted the EU novels In regards to the Mandalorians, I was not surprised in the slightest. I wasn't pleased, but I wasn't surprised either.
And I held no illusions whatsoever that if we were to ever see more content with the original trilogy characters, that any of the stuff from the novels or comics would be adhered to in the slightest.
The games never even entered my radar with the exception that I knew that there was a game companion to the Shadows of the Empire novel and comic.
