Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force

Lonestar

Does anyone still play this game?

IMO, it was one of the best Star Trek games ever made and I play it regularly but the sequel wasn't very good.

occassionally.

i've recently played the Starbase 11 mod and Virtual Dreadnought mod by Laz Rojas for it and the 'demo' of his Captain Proton mod...

Starbase 11 is a 'museum' recreation of Starbase 11 (literally dozens of buildings not seen on-screen over about 12 maps) which you can wander around. the 'personnel' are static due to limitations of the engine, but it's an amazing creation. there's also some 'holodeck' training missions to play...

Virtual Dreadnought is basically a tour-mode like Virtual Voyager in the XP, but aboard a Federation-class Dreadnought complete with mobile crew. there are also 'holodeck' traning missions to play and 'scavenger hunt' style things to do like in the XP.

Laz's Proton mod is a WIP and features a 3-map mission to rescue Buster Kincaid from Chaotica and a 3-map mission to rescue the Earth President from 'Lizard-men'. The full version will also feature a 'Cat-Vixens from Venus' mission and another one - i think with Arachnia...

Laz has also made literally hundreds of MP bots for download, including Ferengi, the TOS cast, TNG cast, Bajorans, Andorians, Vulcans, M'ress from TAS and many of the characters come in multiple versions - eg 'Admiral Picard' from Future Imperfect, FC-Picard, S1 Picard, 'Ensign' Picard from Tapestry, etc.

his site's at elitefarce.cottages.polycount.com

Also the excellent "Argas Effect" is a full TOS mod with movies, SP missions, etc.

I haven't played either one yet. Something to look forward to. They both look like fun, and plus they'll run like the dickens on my circa 2005 PC.

I played this game a LOT in its day, but haven't for a long, long time, and no longer have my disc. I am keeping an eye out for EF2, though.

Until I got the Wii I used to play through both of these twice a year (as well as Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy). I don't enjoy MP in FPS games, so the single player game is rather important; as a result I prefer EF2 for the improved visuals and the enhanced role of the tricorder, although some of the dialogue is complete rubbish.

I played it a lot a few years ago - but eventually I had to put the cheats in to get past certain areas....*shame*

:D

I gave the game to my nephew a while back - and after he'd started playing the game he had a nightmare that bionic zombies were after him...wonder where that came from.....lol

i think i only cheated once and that was too get past a bit where you have to jump in space from one walkway to another.

i cheated more on RTCW, but i actually completed it without cheating eventually...

Oh man. Picked EF2 up and installed it this morning before going to work, fantastic! The opening credits alone, seeing what the credits to TNG might have looked like with the Enterprise-E, almost bought tears to my eyes. The game runs like a dream on maximum rez and effects. It just looks so damned good. I am really looking forward to getting into this this weekend.

Elite Force is one of the few Trek games worth the plastic it's pressed on. Elite Force 2 in particular was as good a single-player FPS as I've played, really. My only niggling complaint with the game was that Picard looked a little too short!

It would be nice to see another sequel running on a younger engine.

It would, but I'm not sure who'd develop it; Ritual's gone belly-up, and Raven is busy working on the next Wolfenstein game. I can't think of any other PC developers who are left with a proven track record at developing good licensed FPSes... Maybe Gearbox? (Though they're even busier--publicly--than Raven...)

there's the bigger problem of Activision falling out with Paramount over the fact that Nemesis sucked and (AV claim) it negatively affected sales...

so: Digital Extremes or Epic...?

Might be a problem if Raven (who owns Activision) wants to get involved, true.

DE's first solo work wasn't well-received, so I'd say not them. :) Epic is great at tech, but I haven't been terribly impressed by their recent attempts at story-based shooters (Unreal II, Gears of War).

...but imagine a Star Trek game running on that framework. Phaser shootouts plus Gears of War's cover system? I'm there. Something that like that would just beg for a Siege of AR-558 mod.

There's no reason someone else couldn't license the Unreal tech, though; after all, they did for Klingon Honor Guard and The Fallen. :)

Patrick Stewart is only 5'7" or something quite short.

I am about 3/4 through the campaign now I think, and VERY impressed. It was a real thrill to walk on the hull of the Enterprise. The plot is great, the graphics are great, it's a real treat- like a new episode of next gen! I love it.
