What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

When I include this ":shifty:" in a comment like the above, I am indicating that I'm talking about myself far more than anyone else.
We were discussing back & forth for quite a while.

It takes two to tango, and a few others to join us on occaision.

I know I'm a major part of the recent debate.

Depends, sometimes if one digs too hard, that unfettered access can become restricted very quickly.

Interesting. In my "Complete 'Mission: Impossible Dossier" everyone who was interviewed for the book was pretty unfiltered in their behind the scenes stories of who they didn't like in terms of producers, actors, script, directors etc. Granted the show had been off the air twenty years at that point when the book was written, but almost everyone involved in the show was still living at the time, except for Executive Producer Bruce Geller and a handful of directors, actors, and screenwriters. I guess twenty years after the fact you're more honest with your answers.

From Page 586 of the Deep Space Nine Companion

Of Farrell's decision to leave the show, the actress says simply, "My heart said it was time to move on. After playing the character for six years, there's things I wish we would have done. I wish I would have had at least one fight scene this year. But there's nine major characters, so the writers can only do so much." Farrell admits, "I've had six years and one hundred fifty episodes of experience on this show, so my sadness is more in saying goodbye to the people. I don't feel cheated out of the character in the same way as I would have if the show had been cancelled, because I've gotten the opportunity to play her. And besides," she says, "it's Jadzia that's dying. Dax is living."

The book was published one year after Deep Space Nine went off the air. The author had unprecedented access to actors, writers, producers, etc. when writing this book while the show was still on the air. Don't you think if there had been any disagreements between Farrell and Berman or anyone else, she or the producers would have taken the time to mention something while the book was being written?

Very close to the incident. Clearly at that point Terry felt the need to be guarded and not to open up that particular can of worms. Very often these things can take years to come out.

We've visited enough "Mirror Episodes" or Grim Dark Time Lines.

We don't need more of that.
Need? No.

Want? Yes.

But, as was established a long time ago, what I want from New Trek and what most people here want from New Trek are two VERY different things.

I want:
  • Legacy
  • Discovery Seasons 6 and 7
  • A Discovery spin-off that follows up on "Calypso".
  • A Section 31 series with Georgiou BUT not whoever wrote whatever the Hell that TV Movie was.
  • An Assignment: Earth spin-off. 1960s or 2020s, either way.
  • And why not? A Discovery-centric Mirror Universe series. Fuck it.

So, yeah. That's me.

I do always get a bit of a chuckle when these arguments focus on Deep Space Nine. Everything that is wrong with the show is because of that dastardly Rick Berman. Everything right is the because of other people.

I didn't see ANYone saying that.
