If it's true, that fact would not be necessary to explain why he chose her father out of all the other possible employees who might blow up the Kelvin Archive; Thomas conveniently worked there and had a weakness, a dying daughter he would do anything to save, and Khan exploited that. But it would add an interesting additional what's in it for Khan layer - his line (perhaps through her mother's side) continuing.

I would set it around 2070 (to make the two centuries dialog fit best). Even after the discovery of warp drive, interstellar travel at warp 1 to the Alpha Centauri systems might still take +four-ish years hence the need for sleeper ships. Twenty or thirty years latter, sleeper ship would not be needed with the development of warp 2 or 3 speeds. This can put the location of the S.S. Botany Bay at the 200 light year distance from Sol.

For me it's pretty much only the live action and animated series that are cannon. I'll include extended and deleted scenes whenever possible as well as the novelization of movies/episodes if they include material that didn't make the screen.
I used to be much more comprehensive. I would include books/comics, some RPG materials, but it just started to become too unwieldy, so, I pared it back to the basics.​

At some point, Starfleet has an internal crisis over interpretations of the Prime Directive— the “save them from extinction events but stay unseen” faction versus the “let ‘em fry” faction. (The former view ultimately prevails.)

Well its official mission role is scientific and exploratory but it also operates as a military when needed. So its military role while secondary is there so its the best of both worlds. But starfleets prime function is not military its scientific and exploratory.
