Season 3 First Look

I can see the Environmental Belts ending up being established that they had a very limited lifespan due to their very high power requirements.

Perhaps it was found that they tend to burnout faster in harsher environments and so their use became very limited since the standard spacesuit lasted much longer in a wider variety of places.

Also, from what we've seen, it appears that Star Fleet preferred that their starship crews mostly avoid actually landing on and exploring planets that weren't Class M.

If I learned anything from Community, it’s that we already have holodeck technology in the 21st century.

Well, I was mainly joking on that point. I don't take canon that seriously to begin with. I'm in it to be entertained.

I enjoy nitpicking star trek canon especially visual and tech canon. Star wars has done a far superior job with their vusual and tech canon.

Come to think of it Data and Geordi built temporal environmental arm bands in tng. Maybe they got the idea from the environmental belts.

Again, you're pulling examples of a tech established in other shows as brand new. The "limit" will be different for each fan. So there will never be a hard fast line that can't be crossed. For me the limit is what is shown in TOS/TAS. SNW for the most part is using modern takes on that. They've struck the right balance so far.
I dont really see a problem with that. I'm not dragging it out of Doctor Who or anything, it's all still Star Trek.

As other people have mentioned, it doesn't stop other species from having it years before the Federation. But since there's no hard fast line, I guess that puts a line under the topic.

How dare you nitpick! You must enjoy it without question. ;)

Lol. I really enjoy nitpicking. I examine all the details. I really think SNW could have done a better job with tech and visusl canon. I would not think a new fan of star trek would go from SNW to TOS and think "Wow these shows flow so well together TOS definitely feels like a sequel to SNW."

They could have updated the tos enterprise interiors by keeping them the same size and even overall look but given the walls the porcelain shine, updated the winky blinkies to be actual screen savers (like they did on the enterprise in a mirror darkly), kept the cage uniforms and jackets(those aged well) and kept the bridge abd quarters the same size. They could have also update computer graphics. With those changes everything would have been shiny and sparkly and look more updated and at the same time be much closer to canon.

No one ever said enjoy it without question. I said give it a chance and see what they are actually going to do before jumping to conclusions.
Agreed. If it's nitpicking from enjoyment, then ok, I get that. But, we haven't even seen the episode and "it's non canon!" arguments are on the table because of no context clips from a trailer.

Again, they're extreme examples. As "but what about?" examples tend to be in most arguments.
A holographic humanoid isn't that extreme, i'm pretty sure we're going to see one in SNW. Nor is storing a small piece of federation equipment in a transporter buffer. I mean, M'Benga did it to his daughter, it can't be that extreme.

If it's extreme by what Trek traditionalists would consider TOS standards, then fair enough. I wouldn't say its that extreme for SNW. It's not long after the Red Angel suit, after all.

A new fan would find it challenging, for sure. I think the visual canon argument opens up a can of worms thats too often opened for any rational discussion, but I agree with a lot of what you said.

We've seen holo-humanoids in TOS already (That Which Survives). Scotty stored himself and one other person in a transporter buffer in the 23rd Century. So SNW wouldn't be doing anything "extreme" there. TOS also has high functioning androids. But you're reaching for 24th Century plus tech in your examples. it what I presume is an attempt at "gotcha!"

Nah, no "gotcha". I'm not sure what there is worth getting a "gotcha" over.

I've moved on to disagreeing that what we've seen of 24th Century tech (TNG/DS9/VOY) is "extreme" by SNW standards. It's quite basic looking, really.

Great, some more terrible comedy episodes, and a fucking holodeck episode (aka the worst type of recurring Star Trek episode). I bet we'll have another wacky Spock episode too, that is if he can stop messing around with the human woman he 100% barely knows in TOS but can't stop interacting with in this show (seriously, Spock and Chapel were barely acquaintances in Prime Timeline TOS, much less former fuck buddies).

SNW is continuing to be a show with a handful of legitimately great episodes a season and then a bunch of episodes that are just rancid. They write episodes like they have an older Trek's 26 episode season to fill so they let some stinkers get through, but with literally less then half that amount of episodes. I can't wait until they bring back ferengi episodes (even though Starfleet didn't officially meet the Ferengi until TNG, but when have SNW writers evere cared about continuity, or the franchise in general).
