William Shatner Confirms Talks for Star Trek Return at 93 Years Old

Well it can't be any worse than Luke's return in Star Wars.
Well
...
We had a terrible movie but a fantastic CGI deep fake appearance.

I feel like he has a better idea about his character than Patrick Stewart does on his. One of the reasons Picard wasn't very good was because of his input.
the movies, too.

Definitely agree - Kirk is a part of Shatner in a lot of ways, where as Picard is just a role Stewart plays. After awhile, Shatner and Kirk just seem to merge into one being, but not in a bad way. Nothing quantitative, just the feeling it gives me. Later movie Kirk was very much Shatner.

I just had an epiphany on Unification.

Veridian III is.... a green paradise?

Picard S3 - Genesis II.

The presence of Gary Mitchell.

For Spock, he needed Genesis (restore the body), McCoy and his katra (restore the mind/soul.)

For Kirk, the recovered body was restored with the Genesis II device, and his soul..... was returned by Gary Mitchell, cosmic entity, seeking redemption.

The problem was - Patrick Stewart didn't want to just do a rehash of the 24th century Jean Luc Picard (which let's face it in that this was exactly what TNG fans wanted.)

Stewart wanted to have the character be profoundly affected and changed by those 30 years - and he put a lot of input into how that should be shown. He wanted a 'new" Picard to play; and he got what he wanted.

Unfortunately there's that. The audience wants one thing but the actors/writers want another.

Fans engaged to the 3rd series more as it was basically an TNG epilogue.
Chances are if Sir Patrick was pithed a TNG reunion outright he'd likely of said no. He wanted a Logan like send off for Picard methinks.

The actors are never the characters you love, so this is always a bad idea.

I think calling whatever that was "Luke's return" is being overly generous to the filmmakers.

Yup. A 34 year wait and what did we get. Luke considered murdering his nephew in his sleep, became a hermit because he basically was the last straw that caused Ben to go fully to the dark side, gave up on the republic, his friends and keeping the republic safe, drinking green milk out of a weird alien cow, got his butt kicked by rey, barely talked to R2 and Chewie, nearly burned all the jedi texts and embarrassed himself in front of yoda not knowing Rey took the texts, waited until the entire resistance was nearly gone to force project the most boring lightsaber battle in history with the most boring dialogue and last but not least died of suppsedly over using the force to make the force protection. No longer the greatest jedi.

There is no way they can make the return of shatners Kirk that bad. Right?......Right?

I don't think they wanted that. I think they wanted something akin to "Logan" but about Picard. It should be noted that "Logan" works because even though most of the X Men are dead he still has Charles from his past who he is now looking out for. So the show was kind of right in that making season 1 deal with a proper Data death was a good idea, even if they didn't do it well. I know I was also sort of thinking the show would be filled with these older character actors and being something like prestige tv. I even thought maybe his good friend In McKellan might do the show.

Instead we got a okay adventure story in season 1 though Picard really was looking old and out of place in that kind of story. Season 2 was of course a disaster in a million ways. Picard season 3 was them coming to terms that the show was not working so they choose to make it a kind of TNG farewell story that in essence brings closure to the TNG crew that "Nemesis" failed to do. Season 3 was not what the show was suppose to be about but it was still great anyways, for what it was trying to do.

I don’t see it happening anyway. Considering how slow they are in making Trek shows these days, he’ll be around 100 when they get to it. :)

They should have offered something really good to shatner decades ago. Im not sure if its that they dont like him or his portrayal of Kirk but hes an icon to star trek fans and deserved more. Not many liked how he died in generations. Though they had nearly derailed the character of Picard by having him come back as a 90 plus year old retired admiral in the first two seasons. The 3rd season was better but still had its flaws. If they are going to do Shatners Kirk I want them to kerep his morality intact and not drag him through the mud of modern storytelling where good characters are not always so good.

is anyone else worried that the requirements of a shooting schedule and all of that kind of thing would be dangerous for a 93-year-old?

I can’t image they are expecting him to engage in fist fights or be thrown around a set during a starship battle. If it’s providing his voice for an animated project or doing work similar to unification I don’t think there would be any major health concerns.

His initial return in “The Mandolorian” was pretty well received though. Even if the cg/de-aging stuff was a bit wonky.

Some of it is on Shatner too. He’s gotta be interested in reprising the role…and the check’s gotta be big enough.

We already know Kirk has his evil side.

Not really. They can be accommodating and were for Christopher Lee and such.
