yes that is about right- he is 36 at the end of the war.

Oh, I've only ever heard allegations used in reference to someone being accused of something.

Yeah, "allegations" is definitely the wrong word there. While it technically only means something that's been alleged (asserted without proof), it's generally used to refer to accusations or charges of wrongdoing. "Rumors" is a better choice.
