Cartoons from the 80s

Dungeons and Dragons and Battle of the Planets were a couple of my favourites, along with Ulysses 31:

Ah, Space Jesus...... That cartoon was wild

Started at the end of the 70s, yet ran through to very early 81
Filmation's Saturday Morning Jam!
At the time (for me), the Greatest Hr. on Saturday Morning TV

Through the Jungle...Across the Plains...and Out of the Night
Come three Champions of Justice:

1ts7im.gif

Tarzan Lord of the Jungle...
2awbxm.gif

The Lone Ranger rides again, to fight for law and order in the old West.
2awc1e.gif

And in early California, one man rides into the night to fight the forces of tyranny,
with his swift blade he carves out justice and leaves the Mark of Zorro.
2awc3m.gif

The: TARZAN - LONE RANGER - ZORRO - ADVENTURE HOUR .

(Filmation had a thing for narrative intros) -
Tarzan:
The jungle: Here I was born; and here my parents died when I was but an infant. I would have soon perished, too, had I not been found by a kindly she-ape named Kala, who adopted me as her own and taught me the ways of the wild. I learned quickly, and grew stronger each day, and now I share the friendship and trust of all jungle animals. The jungle is filled with beauty, and danger; and lost cities filled with good, and evil. This is my domain, and I protect those who come here; for I am Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle!
---
The Lone Ranger: Hi-yo, Silver, away!
A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty "Hi-yo Silver" - the Lone Ranger! With his fearless Indian friend, Tonto, the daring and resourceful masked rider of the plains led the fight for law and order in the early West. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear. From out of the past come the thundering hoof beats of the great horse Silver. The Lone Ranger rides again! Hi-yo, Silver, away!
---
The Mark of Zorro:
In early California, one man rides into the night to fight the forces of tyranny, with his swift blade he carves out justice, and leaves the mark of Zorro.
As Don Diego I pretend to be afraid, but with a mask as my disguise I ride into the night, and raise my sword in the name of justice. For I am Zorro.

And as others indicate, followed by Filmations' rocket to space with Flash Gordon!
2a2k3h.gif

Which as far as I remember followed on another channel
Flash Gordon:
Blasting off, on a desperate mission to save Earth from the evil plotting of the tyrannical space lord Ming the Merciless. .Dr. Hans Zarkov, and Dale Arden have joined me Flash Gordon on a fantastic journey, into worlds where peril and adventure await us.
flash-gordon-nbc.jpg

Began as a made fort TV Animated movie...
Flash Gordon: The Greatest Adventure of All
If you liked Filmation's serialized cartoon version, the original film is really worth a watch.

As far as I know it only aired that one time in 82
A great take on Flash Gordon. And imho one of the best things Filmation produced.
It was edited and expanded on to make what became several episodes of the weekly cartoon.
With all the WWII setting, Hitler references, and any terrestrial looking weapons/ guns and some (slightly more) adult themes replaced or dropped.

I'll say this again one of my all time favourite 80s cartoons. This one broke a lot of taboos too, people got killed, there was blood in a few episodes and it wasn't glossed over. This was a great show.

If someone competent got this IP this would make for a fantastic live action trilogy.......... They should end it with the actual war that was hinted at but never happened due to the show's cancellation after 65 episodes.... That final war with the Queen Of The Crown would have been very cool

Wonder if those kids from Dungeons and Dragons ever got home...
~ Yes, in a Renault Kwid/Outsider

Well, they did have a cameo in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
~ I haven't seen the film, but I have watched the clip of them in the maze. I wish there was an actual live action film featuring them (the Renault ad is amazing for an ad) :adore:

Yeah from what I remember the scene was used to kind of clown them. It wasn't the best homage.

On the other hand, I love the Renault add.
And while appreciate the only reason it even exists is to cleverly promote the car, I wish they (whoever they hired to make it) would release a version taken one step further, replacing the car, with Dungeon Master or Presto conjuring the actual red amusement park vehicle to make their getaway home, and bring it full circle.

Well, since it was the car they were advertising, I guess they needed to show it off a bit more.

It actually sort of reminds me of this vintage commercial, featuring another iconic cartoon duo...

Cartoon was from the 60s, yet another terrific cartoon car commercial was Wacky Races / Peugeot.
Though again I appreciate they made it to showcase their car, yet without the lame Peugeot would be even better. ;)

While there were better vehicles (and of course Transformers), my favorite was Firefly; an outrageous bright neon-orange Baja Dune-Buggy-Dragster that turned into a Laser firing Rocket-Glider.

I saw someone say the old ALF cartoon theme went hard, so I had to go back and remind myself.

It really did.

For me it was "Thundarr the Barbarian".
That's gotta be a Kirby design.
Absolutely, Kirby concept and Style

Unfortunately I believe WB has acquired (= swallowed up) the rights to Thundarr, and is another of those great licences they are just siting on instead of producing something new with.
WB as Producer$ is such a huge behemoth, they have so many properties already in the pipeline this one may mean nothing to them. it's probably near the bottom of things to develop in the huge pile they own, without a clue how to approach for revival.

Was sure this one would be first mentioned...

Oh no. My friend is obsessed with that show. It's damn near all she talks about.
DuckTales
Inspector Gadget
The Care Bear Family
Beetlejuice
My mum had all these on burned DVDs that I used to watch quite a bit as a kid.
And of course, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends…

I've watched this one too.

I remember buying the comic.
Thought it was a strange name and combo of characters, and remember thinking are they capitalizing on Superfriends? Shouldn't The Spider-Friends be Three Spider Themed characters(see above though borderline villains)
Thinking why an X-men, and who is Firestar?
However the show was absolute fun for its time. And I loved the fire-ice opposites theme.
Plus (though awkward) it gave us an X-men crossover episode, and a first hint of what an X-man cartoon might one day look like.

Turner Broadcasting acquired Ruby-Spears Productions in the early 90s. Turner then merged with Time Warner in 1996. So yeah, they're sitting on a metric ton of content. Given how Thundarr has remained so loved by those who watched, it's a wonder it's never gotten the reboot/revival treatment the way so many later toons have.
It's not even on (HBO) Max, though Boomerang has is on it's schedule...
