Cartoons from the 80s

I didn't watch a lot of cartoons in the 80s, mainly because my parents strictly regulated what and how much I (and my four brothers, of course) were watching. Of a lot of them I merely caught glimpses at friends' houses, like He-Man, BraveStarr, Real Ghostbusters, or TMNT. Some I only saw as toys, like Dino Riders or MASK. Some of those I rediscovered as an adult, but a lot of them are a real slog to get through nowadays. Some I really appreciate for their basic concept potential rather than the actual cartoons. He-Man, BraveStarr and Dino Riders could be fantastic movies (if done right, of course).

What I was allowed to watch was the Hanna Barbera adaptation of the Lucky Luke comics:

And the Disney cartoons, like DuckTales, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, and they kind of mixed with the 90s ones like TaleSpin and Darkwing Duck (still my favorite).

I watched Space Battleship Yamato as an adult, though English fansubs of the original Japanese version, and that was a 70s show, so I wouldn't count it.

One Japanese show that actually was from the 80s I discovered and became a huge fan of as a kid (though it was in the 90s) was Cat's Eye (which apparently didn't air in North America until 2007):

It's a show about three sisters who run a café by day, but by night are high profile art thieves known as the Cats, with Hitomi aka Cat's Eye as their leader. The art they steal, however, is all the creation of their long lost father, and they steal the items in the hopes to discover clues as to what happened to him and where he is now.
The detective who is leading the Cat's Eye investigation just so happens to be Hitomi's fiancé, though he swore to only marry her after he caught Cat's Eye (a wonderful vehicle for drama).

DuckTales
Inspector Gadget
The Care Bear Family
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Beetlejuice
Babar
The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Raccoons

I wasn't born until '87 so most of what I watched was from the '90s, but the cartoons that I most remember that started in the '80s would have to be

Beat me to it. One of my absolute childhood favorites. I was so damn happy when it was finally released on DVD back in 2009.

I still haven't watched the sequel season(s?) they did a few years back. Just haven't found the time to get to it yet.

I bet the sequels were not nearly as good. I loved all that with the Golden Condor and the Olmec and all the alien stuff, thinking about it now I bet the Condor was alien too

Technically, this is from 1979, but I remember growing up to this show as it was shown well into the 80's. It was a highly trippy show.

And while I did love The Smurfs, there was also a short-lived show set underwater that tried to catch on to the popularity of the Smurfs. Anyone remember the Snorks?

I loved the Snorks! I use to have an action figure (one of the orange guys, I think) as a kid but I think it has been long since lost. :(

I seem to recall hearing some good things about them but I don't remember for certain.

Star Blazers is about the only I saw. But at twenty I might have been out of the demographic for the rest.

I remember a bunch of them, though I'm sure many were pre-80's.
The Bugs Bunny Roadrunner Show
The Richie Rich/Scooby Doo Show
Jonny Quest
The Smurfs
Super Friends
The Drack Pack
Mighty Man and Yuck
Heathcliff and Dingbat (later Marmaduke)

I'm glad someone remembers Drack Pack

I shall start with this one. Who remembers Spartakus and the sun beneath the sea?

I remember it! It was... odd. Even with the opening narration, I never really understood the premise.

There was also that one with the "Happy Days" cast, traveling through time with a "future chick" (their term, not mine) named Cupcake. I can't make this up.

Nope that one was real.... And the Fonz being the Fonz, he even tried to chat up a cavewoman

Was I the only one when TPM was showing who thought of the robot soldiers of Flash Gordon?
