You know, I would actually bet that the series would be unsuccessful if it was ever likely to have been a thing.Everything I understood about the idea was that it would be Captain Seven, the Enterprise and some of the cast of season 3. Legacy characters would appear, Denise Crosbie was invited to be Sela at one point and Stashwick would be back somehow.
Given that the likes of Ryan, Hurd and Stashwick have backed the idea and still seem to support fans who want it, I'd find it odd if they weren't supposed to be heavily involved.
It should be noted even reviewers who were generally positive about Picard S3 still slammed the season's story as its greatest weakness. Indeed, it's clear they didn't put much effort into the story, knowing everyone was tuning in specifically for the TNG reunion.fans of the plot of Picard season 3? I would wager are a lot fewer.
That does tend to be a thing we hear about any new project, or any new proposal. Starfleet Academy has a lot of people saying this too, but this is comes from a preconceived notion that it will just be more of what came before, and fans have been rough on DSC over the years. We can't tell what a new series will be like until it happens, and basing it on what came before seems a bit premature to me. Very premature, in the case of Legacy. You know, I would actually bet that the series would be unsuccessful if it was ever likely to have been a thing.
I remember that a few reviewers did actually prefer S3 Raffi to the previous seasons. Her and Dorn supposedly had the chemistry that softened some of her rougher edges. I much prefer S3 Raffi to S1 Raffi, as she seemed to get her shit together. Mileage, as always, but I liked her eventually. What "the masses" and indeed myself during the initial airing salivated at was the nostalgia trip all these characters we recognised being paraded before us was a big dopamine hit, but fans of the plot of Picard season 3? I would wager are a lot fewer. Fans of the Jack Crusher character who would be essentially the protagonist of the hypothetical follow up show? Probably not many. People were very unkind towards Raffi, will they suddenly change their mind with her in a new setting? Unlikely.
I've had similar feelings myself, that's why I think a Legacy-like follow up would probably be best served in a tv movie format. Kurtzman appeared positive(?) about the idea in one of the Section 31 interviews.I could be entirely wrong, my own perspective may indeed cloud my judgement here, but I'd postulate that the execs at Paramount see what it is that brought the viewers to Picard season 3 and won't greenlight a very expensive follow up series that won't provide that.

Works for me. If we do see Raffi again, I'd like to hope that relations with her family are further repaired, especially with Gabriel.Um, character arc?
That may have been the idea.
I felt season 3 regressed Raffi, she had her shit together by season 2 and she was in this relationship with Seven by the end, back in Starfleet, Elnor alive and well. But then I liked Raffi from the outset.
Then suddenly she's broke up and we cycle back to referencing her former addictions. The less said about the nonsensical timeline placement and her rapidly aging grandchild the better.
True. Some characters don't get arcs they get circles like John Constantine but that works for them and you see them loop round.Growth is not always a linear progression.
People sometimes backslide. They sometimes regress and make sidetrips. That's life.
I’ve said this before, but season 3’s story indulges in so many bad fanfic tropes and temptations that I would be fucking embarrassed to write in my fic series. It should be noted even reviewers who were generally positive about Picard S3 still slammed the season's story as its greatest weakness. And then some.I’ve said this before, but season 3’s story indulges in so many bad fanfic tropes and temptations that I would be fucking embarrassed to write in my fic series.
Kirk cycling in TMP and TWOK must be annoyingTrue. Some characters don't get arcs they get circles like John Constantine but that works for them and you see them loop round.
And suddenly theyre back to square one next time you see them is less satisfying for me. Johnny Klebbitz at the end of Lost and Damned seemed to have sorted his life out. President of his biker gang, had sort of stabilised his relationship and was off the drugs. Then 5 years later he's only vice president, on more drugs than ever before and his relationship has reset back.
Throwing growth away off screen should warrant some explanation barring oh well guess it didnt work out try not to think about it. Time skips irritate me I need to know everything.
And like I've also said before, Picard S3 is very similar to the kind of fanfic I wrote when I was 12. Even the season's thing of pilfering music from the franchise's greatest hits is how I imagined hypothetical movie versions of my fics.I’ve said this before, but season 3’s story indulges in so many bad fanfic tropes and temptations that I would be fucking embarrassed to write in my fic series.
Well, as we all know fans can produce Star Trek much better than professionals. And like I've also said before, Picard S3 is very similar to the kind of fanfic I wrote when I was 12. I at least have the excuse of still being a child at the time and this was just a different form of playing with Star Trek toys, in a manner of speaking. That excuse can't be applied to the industry professionals who worked on the season however.
Everyone who produces Star Trek is a professional, fan or otherwise. Except for Gene's lawyer.Well, as we all know fans can produce Star Trek much better than professionals.
Yes.Everyone who produces Star Trek is a professional, fan or otherwise. Except for Gene's lawyer.
Put me in coach!!!!!Yes.
I didn't say otherwise. I was referring to the grand tradition of us armchair quarterbacking production decisions.
Season 3 was my favorite PIC season. I had no problem with Jack as a character, although I'm still flummoxed as to why Beverly didn't tell Picard about him. That's really my only problem with this.
If there's a reason why Beverly should have deliberately kept Jack's existence a secret from his father, I'm not aware of it.![]()
