Kurtzman intentionally killed Legacy?

Skydance is a bit of a wild card at the moment, not only with the deal being in purgatory for an unknown amount of years, but because we really have no clue what they want to do with Trek.
That's why I haven't been talking about it in a while. I have some thoughts, but they're premature since there's not enough to go on.

a post-Picard/Legacy-like series, as that's bound to be on the cards if the money is going to be there. The original vision, producer or cast may be lost along the way, as with Section 31. What was once eyed as a 5 season deal, is now a single movie. Things will change.
Without a doubt.

It's not going to be in purgatory indefinitely (there's too much money at stake).

The deal is slated to close sometime this spring.

The merger may end up being reviewed by federal authorities, due to involvement of a blacklisted Chinese company. The spring date could be a bit optimistic.

The optics are terrible (especially in light of the coming TikTok ban on Sunday).

From where I sit, it seems that they are clearly setting up the next series after SNW to be a TOS continuation. Either running concurrently with TOS (my personal preference) or picking up with season 4.

I still think the best option…if they simply MUST do another Kirk/Spock show would be to set it right after TMP and cover that era pre-WoK.

So Kirk would jump from Lieutenant to Captain to Admiral?

I thought Kelvin Kirk was promoted quickly. :shifty:

Whatever for?

We have the Kelvin films.

It's a setup for clashing timelines. What happens if the Kelvin and Prime timelines conflict? ("The Kelvin films exist on their own timeline. They don't count.")

TOS would be all adventures that happened on mondays, wednesdays and fridays. TOS continuation would be all the adventures that happened on tuesdays, thursdays and Saturdays. Sundays are devoted to the cosmic koala.

Back in 2009, a lot of people wanted a series with the rebooted Kirk and company and SNW is as close as we're ever gonna get. It's a decent show but not amazing, IMHO.
I remember back in 2009 wishing that film was instead a whole new TV series kicking off. You basically get the same story in the pilot, and then move on forward. Might have gotten seven seasons from 2009 to 2016 instead of just three movies. Though I suspect some of the cast would never have agreed to doing a TV series, like Pegg, Saldana and Yelchin.

SNW is essentially what I wanted in 2009, though thankfully we got it in 2022 instead with those nice production values.

It's been almost a decade since the last Kelvin Universe film. To say it's left the public consciousness would be an understatement. The Paramount+ shows are the current face of the franchise.

If....... IF another Trek film actually gets off the ground, it'll be this long talked about origin film. What that film ends up looking like or connecting to is entirely up in the air. Though I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing Chris Pine.
