I don't like this news about SNW season 3 from Screen Rant

What a bonkers thing to say when the setup for the musical is an unknown spatial anomaly, which is the franchise’s exploratory bread and butter. That’s the Enterprise doing what it does best.

The episode is literally following Star Trek’s entire mission statement.
I guess...

I felt that more with the medieval one. And I know there was an element of anomaly on that one, but it didn't feel the primary driver.

I don't see any problems with characters using pronouns and diversity characters. But I think that in the future, after Trump comes to power and the heads of big Hollywood companies approach Trump, we will see a decrease in the use of characters using pronouns and diversity characters. This can be provided to some extent with laws that Trump can put in place. We can go back to the early 2000s.

Why should anyone have to hide a large part of their identity in order to make other people comfortable?

Look, I don't find this right either. But there are two different groups on the internet, both those who support and oppose the use of pronouns and diversity characters in TV series and movies. I think that after Trump becomes the president of the USA again, these discussions will reach their peak and one of the two groups will lose.

PROBABLY JUST MY OPINION! So far I have loved SNW season 1 and a few episodes of season 2, but it has now started to drop off. I feel that things have just been getting worse since episode 1, which felt like traditional "Star Trek". Captain Pike is currently my favorite captain, and he especially stood out to me (positively and basically made the second season for me) when I forced my self to watch DSC seasons 1 and 2 just to know what happened before SNW and had to endure Michael Burnham's terrible character arc.

Samson 1 had only 2 episodes that sucked: "Lift Us Where Suffering May Not Reach" because it was sad, followed by "The Elysium Kingdom" which wasn't a bad episode, but I didn't like it. Honorable mention is "The Serene Squall" for having a non-binary main antagonist, no need to force that on us please when that kind of thing should be left in the bedroom and no one cares.

Now I feel SNW is becoming more trouble than it's worth, especially since now I don't like quite a few episodes in season 2. "Subspace Rhapsody" is among the worst I've ever seen, though it was funny at parts which only redeems it little (I dare say Star Trek should have a serious tone with some light laughs thrown in such as "The Trouble With Tribbles", not be a comedy like this). The same goes for "Those Old Scientists", attempts to be too funny. Not a fan over Lower Decks from what I have seen. "Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" ruins the Romulans because La'an sees them when no one should have to this point (though Pike did as well, but I think he can get away with that because he might just forget the visuals and instead just remember the events after the vision like some people do in other movies). Finally, "Hegemony ruins the Gorn for me because it now makes them the main enemy of SNW. Star Trek TOS, despite still not really having Canon from developing it still (and getting retconned several times of course by new trek shows) made it clear the federation had never encountered the Gorn like this before. This skirmish nearly turns into an all out war from what the season 3 episode 1 teaser shows.

Season 3 is not looking good, with the characters becoming Vulcan in the first ever teaser for season 3. And they're looking to diverge even more and make Star Trek "Not Star Trek" by sticking to classic themes. If anything, SNW should be working to stick with and get back to the feel and similar themes of Star Trek: The Original Series, because it takes place right before. This includes SNW now clearly becoming a MUCH more serialized show, though having a new event every episode things carry over too much. SNW is going downhill for me, and I really want to see them "improve". The very first episode, convirntly called "Strange New Worlds" was absolutely perfect, one of the best Trek episodes I have seen thus far from Kelvin Movies, TOS, TAS, TOS movies, TNG season 1, Trials and Tribblations, First Contact, Voy seasons up to 3, and DSC seasons 1 and 2. I just hope SNW "gets better" and much more like TOS episode atmospheres and feels.

I dont mind lighthearted stuff now and than in star trek but its becoming a bit much. We only have 10 eps a season. So far SNW is outweighimg TOS and even TNG with the outright comedy stuff. This isnt the Orville its star trek. I want to see them them out in the depths of space encountering weird stuff. We havent had an episide like the corbomite maneuver yet. Basically just the enterprise encountering a strange thing by themselves and no help from anyone else. Theres always other starships around or aliens we know well or commander kirk.

Kirk's been in like four episodes. The only well known aliens we've seen have been the Vulcans and the Klingons. And I guess the Gorn, who are well known but not explored.

As for encountering a "strange thing by themselves" and "weird stuff."

Children of the Comet

Ghosts of Illyria

Lift Us Up Where Suffering Cannot Reach

The Elysian Kingdom

Among the Lotus Eaters

Charades

Those Old Scientists

Subspace Rhapsody

Not too many comedy episodes, really. Those Old Scientists of course. The Elysian Kingdom and Charades are the only ones that come to mind, And no, Subspace Rhapsody is not a comedy episode. It's a fairly serious character exploration episode that a has a laugh or two.

How so? It’s explained in the episode that the probability field translates to the crew being exposed to a reality where personal expression is done through song.

Once again, a very sci-fi and Star Trek premise.
Yes. The musical episode goes out of its way to give a techno babble explanation that would make TNG proud.

If a similar plot had been done in TOS (in inimitable TOS fashion), would fans have liked it more or less?
Probably liked it more.

If you asked people to guess what show that technobabble explanation was from, and made it easier for them by giving them just two groups to pick from, which group would they choose?

Group A:
For All Mankind, Strange New Words, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, The Expanse.

Group B:
Futurama, The Orville, Lower Decks, Red Dwarf, Hyperdrive.

We'd have eaten it up with spoons.

The stories of "The Trouble WIth Tribbles" and "A Piece of the Action" only work on any level because of "rule of funny".*

*The story of "Trials and Tribbleations" is too negligable to bother with. It's a low-effort macguffin.
