Your opinion on SNWs Gorn

Creative thinking was banned in the 2nd Council of Roddenberry.
I figure that must've been back in 2017. We used to come up with creative explanations for why the many things in the franchise didn't entirely line up.

These days? Some people would rather declare proof of an alternate universe every time something doesn't line up 100%.

Had we done that back in the day there'd be at least dozen alternate universes created every season.

So Amanda was exaggerating when she said Spock and Sarek had spoken. I mean they had spoken. It just wasn't friendly.

And going by Discovery they were clearly still talking even after Spock was in Starfleet.

I think if someone likes a change, they'll try to come up with reasons for why it doesn't contradict. If they don't like the change, they might still try to come up with a creative answer, but half-heartedly. If a series has habit of making changes and they don't like any of them, then their patience is going to have ran out a long time ago by this point.

My opinion on the Gorn is that it was a bad idea to change them, the changes are all eye-rolling, and I'll be happy if they decide to move past them and come up with a better main antagonist.

Yes, actually.

Although the BBC are still the primary owners, Disney+ have the distribution rights outside of the UK and Ireland (which is still covered by the BBC).
They're not doing much with those distribution rights beyond the basic. We Americans haven't even gotten colorized War Games yet.

Amanda said they "hadn't spoken as father and son", which offers wiggle room. Making veiled insults at each other means they haven't spoken as father and son I guess.

It actually holds up better than Obi-Wan's "Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough" which 50 years of various retcons and tie-ins and prequels haven't been able to make sense of yet.

Literally don't understand why all these species design changes need explanations
If Nintendo makes a new Mario game where Yoshi hurls his eggs at Bowser's minions, they fall over in agony and a new Yoshi rips violently out of them, see how well the Mario fandom takes that and whether they'll accept Nintendo's claims that an explanation for this sudden new violent ability of Yoshi's is not needed.

They wouldn't.

Mostly because Yoshi has appeared in 6 stand alone titles, and almost every spin-off that Mario has appeared in, which amounts to a significant amount of information.

Vs. the Gorn who have (counts on hands) two appearances.

Not even close to the same comparison, much less that would be extremely violent on the part of a rather cartoonish video game franchise.

False equivalency is false.

Hmmm...don't know, don't care, about Pac-Man, nor am I inclined to click a random link to Steam.
Rather than making veiled accusations of me trying to infect your PC with a virus (I'm not), if you're really so cautious all you need to do is google the name of the game as seen in the link, Shadow Labyrinth, and read about the new violent Pac-Man.

I love them. But I can see why many wouldn't as they are quite different to what we've seen before.

I've been one to concern myself with redesigns though (otherwise I'd never have redesigned myself into a new gender haha)

We never knew anything about the Gorn aside from the slow lumbering one from the arena. Nothing we've seen contradicts that ONE individual Gorn who for all we know was elderly and at the end of his life. Alot of species here on earth go through various stages of.development
There was also the Gorn individual in ENT "In a Mirror, Darkly," which was more limber and fast than the one in TOS "Arena."

Starting with what's shown in the Star Trek: Alien 3 intro episode, my main issue with the portrayal of how the Gorn work as a species in SNW is that they make no logical sense as a species. Canon irregularities become less important when something is just nonsensical in the first place.

If Gorn young kill each other off until only 1 or maybe 2 'strongest' remain while also going after all non-Gorn in an area they would nullify large swaths of land as unable to support the creation of more Gorn. Unless they as a species were born with the ability to travel through space (which is ridiculous) how could they have supported a large enough population long enough to make any technological progress on their home world?

If Gorn spend decades, possibly centuries treating other species as food or breeding stock, it is unrealistic to expect them to even consider engaging diplomatically with them. If people were losing to something we consider animals we might try changing strategies sure, but we wouldn't suddenly consider and treat them as our equals.

Aside from the social/biological aspects - I do personally like the SNW physical design for Gorn better than the previous iterations but that's just my subjective opinion.
