DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Don’t give up hope.
A fine principle in general, but in this case: Do. Really, just do.

In other news, this is apparently the look of our new Fortress of Solitude:

Pretty cool. Traditional look (ever since 1978, anyway), but with a shape that's more dramatic, more alien, and more suggestive of crystalline growth.

I remember him from the Justice Leage International/Justice League Europe comics, from many moons ago.
I feel Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, Guy and Mr. Terrific are a team, since they all wear similar uniforms. Terrific and Metamorpho were in a team call the Terrifics in the comics (lead by Mr. T) It was an "homage" to the Fantastic Four, Including a stretchy guy (Plastic Man) and a invisible woman (Phantom Girl)

I speculate that this team might work for Stagg Industries, who employs Metamorpho in the comics and who's logo is seen in the trailer

They do seem to use a lot of ‘78 ideas. Personally I would have preferred completely new looks for those locales.

This character has been around for nearly nine decades, and his past is a big part of why we care about him, his world, and this movie. Every iteration is a combination of old and new. Should Superman '78 have completely redesigned the character's costume from the comics and the prior screen versions, just to be different? Each new production embraces the best and most beloved of what's been established, then adds its own ideas and innovations, some of which will then take hold as part of the character's legacy going forward.

Clark entering the Daily Planet in the trailer was also done in "Superman Returns" too

That's awesome!
During the trailer premiere interview James Gunn put out a warning that despite how the trailer makes him look, Krypto is actually a "pretty terrible dog".

For those unaware of the backstory, Gunn based Krytpo on his dogg Ozu, who got after he was rescued from a hoarding situation around the time Gunn started writing Superman, and he was pretty badly behaved, which inspired Gunn to write Krypto the same way.

I loved the new Superman trailer. I've watched it numerous times already. Now THAT is more like it. This movie isn't going to shy away from its comic book origins(kept the red tights and yellow emblem on cape) and isn't going to try to make it dark and gritty. We have that already with Batman. James Gunn clearly gets it. Superman should always be a character about hope, optimism and a force for good. Can't wait to see this.

I was at work when the trailer dropped. Luckily, it was a slow day, so I had a bit between customers when I could watch it on my phone. And I've watched it several times on the way home, as well as reaction videos to it. And the analysis video from Dan Murrell. And I've just watched it again at home on the bigger screen.

I'm a bit torn. On one hand, this trailer makes me so happy, makes me hopeful that this is the kind of movie I've been waiting to see all my life.
On the other hand, I despise each and every day that puts itself between now and July 11. I want to see this movie so bad!

I don’t know… it’s hard to tell with these movies. I predict it does okay but nothing Earth shattering. Around the 500 million mark
Not good enough, mate. This film needs to out perform the last Superman solo movie, MOS 2013. That film finished at $663 million world wide. WB was hoping it would make it to $800 million. Compared to the early Iron Man movies and late stage X-Men movies, MOS was doing comparable numbers.

Superman 2025 has to beat Man of Steel AND perform well enough to erase the doubts caused by previous DC films.

Next to Sony and their Spider-Man-Less Spider-Man movies. WB has been burning money on all these “course corrected” DC movies that nobody asked for and nobody is paying to see.

Going back to January 2020 (nearly 5 years ago). The last 10 DC movies released:

Joker 2 - November 2024
Aquaman 2 - December 2023
Blue Beetle - August 2023
The Flash - June 2023
Shazam 2 - March 2023
Black Adam - October 2022
The Batman - March 2022
The Suicide Squad - August 2021
Wonder Woman 1984 - December 2020
Birds of Prey - January 2020

Only The Batman was a financial success. While all the others either underperformed/flopped (Aquaman 2 and Black Adam) or outright bombed. That’s not good by any metric.

Think about it another way. Tomorrow Paramount will be releasing the 3rd movie in their Sonic series. Sonic 1 came out the same month as Birds of Prey, and Sonic 2 came out the same month as Shazam 2. Sonic 3 is coming out against Disney’s Lion King prequel. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind Sonic 3 will be a success. Because Paramount has the support of the general audience and has fan support. Something WB had and lost.

Billions, literal billions of dollars were spent on the last 10 DC films. With no return on investment.

With the recent bombing of yet another Sony CBM (Kraven). The age of comic book movies is in its twilight. Fantastic Four July 2025 and Superman July 2025. It’s going to come down to one or both of these films succeeding or failing.

With Captain America 4 releasing in January and Thunderbolts (Marvel’s Suicide Squad vs Hyperion, one of Marvel’s Superman clones) releasing in May. Before we can get to Superman.

Nope. The mediocrity of Zack Snyder is done and dusted, at last.
In your dreams.
I mean, seriously - " Go read the YouTube comments?" That's what you got?
Yeah, that's where the fans are giving their honest opinions. I did say sort by 'new'. Cuz everyone that watched the new trailer were commenting on the old trailer.
No one's even visiting that particular video shrine these days other than the Snyderoids who bark on social media. So, no surprises there.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:
Not a Snyderoid, I just liked MoS. A guy can't mention his preferrences?

This'll beat MOS's numbers, easy.

It's telling that while Warners' Man of Steel trailer has accumulated 50 million views over eleven years, Superman's racked up almost 16 million in twelve hours.
