The Down Under Lounge

Why? What's it like right now in England?
It has been very cold (minus temperatures during the day) plus snow (just a little where I am but it's been heavier elsewhere in the country). Now it's warm (14C/57F) but very, very wet and windy (the wretched wind has managed to jam one of my windows by smashing it shut). Supposedly back to colder, drier weather tomorrow.

It's good weather to be under the duvet listening to cricket and Jim Maxwell.

Yep was freezing until yesterday morning, garden full of snow. Now all gone and sunbathing in the garden. OK maybe not but it says it 16 outside

I saw on the news there was some flooding there.

Pity there is no rain in Perth at the moment for the cricket. Sadly I tuned out watching the match after day 1.

So there's a big sink in Victoria over the year 12 high school exams becasue of the similarity between questions in this year's exam and from previous years.

Must be a Victorian thing.

Finishing high school in S.A in the late 80s teachers would use questions from previous years and there was always the chance it could popup in the SACE exams.

I repeated year 12 in 89 and one of my subjects was Legal Studies. The teacher gave use a question from a previous year for an essay during the year. He also used in the trial exam and when the public exams rolled around there it was a 3rd time.

So I ended up writing the same essay 3 times in once year. Probably help me jump my final score on the subject from 77 in 88 to 90% that year.

Oh and the banning under 16s from social media was passed today but wait for it none of the pollies know exactly how this will work.

WHY THE FUCK would you ram through legislation that you have no idea how this would actually work?

Abanese and Labor honestly are a bunch of fucking cockwombles but not as bad as Dutton

^ I ignore whatever Elonia Musk says about it. It will be interesting to see how it works, as it sounds like it was rushed through. I don't have kids, so it doesn't bother me that much.

On the Victoria Education problem - there have been calls for the Education Minister to resign by certain Liberal Party members.

So I was watching 60 Minutes tonight (well part of it) and it's been 10 years since the Lindt Siege. I remember living in Newcastle and kept on checking on my Sydney friends to see if they were okay. The whole thing was sad and horrific.

Yeah it doesn't feel like it's been that long but I remember that day so clearly.

Yep, remember it well.

Did anyone watch the Countdown special last month? I forgot about it, will catch up tonight on iView.

Actually that's a fairly good assessment from both of you. Found myself skipping bits, having a 'house band' instead of the artists themselves was a bit dull, even though the musos themselves were pretty good. One standout was Kate Ceberano doing 'Running Up That Hill', but frankly the ABC did it on the cheap. So yeah, onwards and upwards.

I was chatting to someone about Australia and they brought up policies like the social media ban. They seemed concerned about privacy rights.

Anyway they said that "Australia is isolated by ocean and a perfect testing ground for policies that no other country would try due to its docile population"

I think they were right somehow, and this is a sentiment that I have heard for many years from different people.

If you watched that YT vid I posted called 'Trump's Biggest Failure', which is really all about China, there's a bit in the middle where the narrator raises the idea that China uses Australia as a test bed for stuff they want to launch onto the West. Buying Darwin Port happened before they really expanded into European ports like Hamburg and Piraeus.

Not sure if our population is docile or laidback.

Honestly I think our population is a lot of both..
