Though it seems Curtis' Saavik has grown more popular over the decades.
Kirstie Alley never felt like she was playing anything other than Kirstie Alley.
If no one's ever told Saavik was supposed to be part-Romulan, the only time where it would've been particularly noticeable at all to me would be at Spock's funeral when she's tearing up, but I let that pass. Most everyone else was feeling the same way and wasn't caring about that. And once that part of her character was never mentioned onscreen it just made Alley's performance all the more awkward, if still enjoyable.
For the nitpickers, I'd say that Vulcans control their emotions but that doesn't mean they don't have them.
Oh, God.Okay, Peggy Hill.![]()
Oh, God.
I see where this is going. If this is what makes your day, and the other Usual Suspects' day, then have it. You all have a good day doing what it is you do.
I never had an issue with Alley's portrayal. The half Romulan aspect was really enjoyed by me because I like Romulans and read a couple of books that alluded to it.If no one's ever told Saavik was supposed to be part-Romulan, the only time where it would've been particularly noticeable at all to me would be at Spock's funeral when she's tearing up, but I let that pass. Most everyone else was feeling the same way and wasn't caring about that.
For the nitpickers, I'd say that Vulcans control their emotions but that doesn't mean they don't have them. In a moment, she slipped. They're at a funeral. These nitpickers shouldn't be "that person" about it.
This is all "found out after the fact" stuff. If you know Saavik was supposed to be half-Romulan, you're likely someone who's watched TWOK tons of times and are now looking out for it the next time you watch it.
Now I kinda wanna know who belongs to this Rogues Gallery?and the other Usual Suspects'
That's almost identical to my introduction into the TOS movie series. Plus my dad was also confused about who Kirstie Alley was supposed to be playing when we watched TWOK. Funny the things you remember..My first TOS movie was actually TVH because it aired on TV. I even remember taping it and having to fast-forward through the commercials. This must have been when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade.
Then the local indie video store picked up some of the TOS films... but only TSFS, TVH, TFF, and TUC. I was too young to understand the Roman numerals, and rented TFF and TUC before TSFS. I remember being home sick with a cold when I finally saw TSFS for the first time and was very confused, but at least I'd seen TVH a few times so knew some of the backstory.
Later on the local Fox affiliate aired TMP and TWOK on a weekend afternoon. TMP was the 3 hour with ads extended version, TWOK the edited for 2 hours with ads and some ceti eel body horror somewhat tuned down. Ahhh this is how Spock died. But who was the other Vulcan? That can't be Saavik? Wait, where is Khan from?
For Christmas or my birthday in 4th grade, I got the complete set of the TOS films on VHS (the one where the spines combine to form the Enterprise-A, with TUC an off center add on). Only then was I able to watch them in order. And then I had to seek out "Space Seed" on VHS to get the first appearance of Khan!
There isn't one thing specifically "wrong" with TSFS that earns it the odd numbered curse frame. You have the recasting of Saavik, the clearly a set instead of location shot Genesis Planet, and Charles Correll's very cheap looking cinematography (whereas no one can accuse the ostensibly filmed as a potential TV movie TWOK for not looking cinematic) that all combine to bring each other down.
And how does this relate to PICARD? Uh... the Bruce Maddox recasting kinda fails. But it does lead credence to the rumor he was originally planned to be a season villain, and once you see the Jordan Peterson resemblance, it can't be unseen.
Thanks...thanks for that. And how does this relate to PICARD? Uh... the Bruce Maddox recasting kinda fails. But it does lead credence to the rumor he was originally planned to be a season villain, and once you see the Jordan Peterson resemblance, it can't be unseen.
Now I kinda wanna know who belongs to this Rogues Gallery?
I hope I make the cut!I’ve never belonged to a Rogues Gallery before!
About time we got a perk.If I'm a member then I hope the Gallery has a minibar. The rest of the BBS doesn't.
