The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

though there is the fan theory that the original Equaliser was a spin-off
That he was Callan under an alias? Imagine the theories that would abound if George Lazenby had played the role, which he claims he originally was.

Personally, I always like the idea that if Woodward-McCall is actually Callan, then Washington-McCall is Creasey from Man on Fire, but from an alternate universe where he survives, obviously.

Edit: and it looks like we’ll also be getting more Denzel as McCall too

Meh... Looks okay.

Kind of like what folks did with Mulan, Little Mermaid and the latest dumpster fire posing as "Snow White". Disney's going to get bent over a bar-stool with that last one if their main star can't keep her mouth shut on social media for more than 2 seconds, initiating many self-inflicted wounds, alienating a ton of potential movie-goers in a time when people are getting a little fed up with the House of Mouse. But I digress...

Seems to be a widespread trend these days - happening in anime too with live-action versions of Akira (in production), Last Airbender, One Piece, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Beebop, Speed Racer, the Guyver, and so on. Hell, they even did a live-action Space Battleship Yamato a while back that, while deviating from the original story in many significant ways (especially regarding the relationship between Iscandar and Gamilon), was still not bad from an adaptation POV.

Seems to be a hit-or-miss mixed bag, really. I'm certainly not expecting high cinema, but I liked the original and I'll give this one a go once it goes to streaming, anyway.

I am still waiting for Encino Man 2. In fact, while they are at it I think it's time to bring back all the Pauly Shore movies. His comeback, awaits!

I’m all for the brendan Fraser revival continuing but there’s no reason why this sequel (which would be California Man on this side of The Atlantic) can’t open with “sadly Paulie’s character died on his way back to his home planet.”

Here I come to save the day! Mighty Mouse (reboot) is on the way!

Yeah, that’s gonna be stuck in all your heads now isn’t it? And I’m not sorry.

And I see Andy Kaufman lip-syncing it on SNL as well.
