Robert Beltran's Films & Series

Any fans of Robert Beltran? I just know him for Star Trek: Voyager, the 80's film Night of the Comet, and his return to Star Trek in Prodigy. I'm pretty sure this is all I've seen him in, but I enjoyed watching him in all 3. How about you guys?

Night of the Comet was my first exposure to Beltran. It remains a fave.
It also remains the only non-Trek project I've seen him in. :D
(Not counting a few eps of '80s TV that I'm sure I saw at the time but have no memory of now.)

What a short thread..

Actually having never been a Beltran fan I was shocked at how excellent he was in Prodigy. He sounded far more like Chak than Mulgrew and Picardo did of their characters. He did good!
Maybe not a lot of love for Choc-KO-tay's Robert Beltran?
Have you seen his quirky zombie movie, Night of the Comet?

I loved his return to Prodigy. I keep hoping that we get to see more of this era someday.
I remember watching the first 10 episodes, hoping we'd get more than little cameos, then P+ cancelled and pulled the show before I could watch the back 10. When the show came to Netflix, I re-watched the first 10, then 30 new episodes. Loved having Chakotay as a semi-regular in S2. :D

"Night of the Comet" was entertaining. But my vote goes to "Eating Raoul" (1982)

For years I dismissed this movie as some teen drama, misunderstanding its title. It's actually a black comedy about a prudish couple becoming serial killers. Robert Beltran plays Raoul, a young stud who involves himself in the couple's schemes, leading to a love triangle. The solution to said love triangle is revealed in the movie's very literal title.

How much you enjoy "Eating Raoul" might have less to do with how much you love or hate Beltran, than with your sense of humor.

Definitely first saw him in Eating Raoul, and could never get that image out of my head while watching Voy. :D

Aways liked the character, though thought they were to quick to integrate him and his crew, with the Starfleet regulars aboard Voyager.
They had him to quickly neutered and deferring to Janeway, which made him lose any edge or presence among the crew.
They should have maintained an uneasy tension, with the Maquis retaining more of their identity, a more antagonistic and reluctant alliance, with ongoing tension between what remained of the two crews, forced to work together to survive.
The payoff becoming a crew/"family" would have meant more.

Janeway representing Starflleet trying to maintain a semblance of protocol, structure, invoking things stay by the book, as the best way to survive in a world thrown into chaos. And Chakotoy more willingly reckless and subversive, following his Maquis instinct, willing to cross lines and do almost anything necessary if it means survival.
The two needing to find a middle ground, a respectfull give and take conflict, where neither one or the other's approach was always right. Yet bringing out the best to work and survive together.

Call me crazy but I actually like Beltran's performance as Chakotay.

Everyone knows he had serious issues with the writing of Voyager but I firmly believe that he did the best he could. He's a professional, he takes the scripts he's given. He could have walked away at any time, but stuck with it till the end. That takes no small amount of guts.

And the mere fact that he returned to play Chakotay in PRO speaks volumes. He doesn't have a grudge.

And some of the best VOY episodes were his. Nemesis, One Small Step, hell even Tattoo....you can't ignore that.

Edit: Probably my favorite Chakotay moment in the whole show was when two of his Maquis comrades come to him and say that they'll support a takeover of the ship. He just glares at them and says "If I ever hear you talk that way again, I will personally throw you in the brig for MUTINY!"
