Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Is it my imagination, or is no one anywhere online discussing this season much? Traffic/comments seem down everywhere.

Not sure why there would be such a drop off. Have international streaming rights been lost by someone since Season 4 came out?
You know, I think you are right, there’s noticeably fewer people talking about the new season in the episode discussion threads. Hard to say why that is, though. Maybe the fact that it’s been cancelled plays into it somehow? Could also be that it’s because internationally fewer people are able to watch it because it’s now exclusively on Paramount+ whereas years ago it was available on streaming services like Prime Video, which I suspect has more people subscribed to it.

Ignoring for a second whether discussion really has gotten any less, I feel like this show never really garnered all that much traffic and discussion to begin with. As much as fans seem to love it — and I know I certainly do — I suspect its nature as an animated comedy show and the fact that there's never been much of an up and down in terms of quality have resulted in a viewership that’s very content with the show, but doesn’t feel a great need to talk about it. People on the whole are just taking animated comedies way less seriously, so whatever happens on the show, there’s a big chunk of the audience who doesn’t view it as existing on the same level as the live action shows. In the first years of the show we had many people here freaking out about one aspect of the show or another (mostly Mariner’s zaniness, I guess), but those kind of viewers have probably tuned out by this point, come to terms with what the show is or feel it has changed to be less of a thing to talk about. At least these are my theories, haha.

This week in particular has coincided with a mass exodus away from Twitter, which once had a vibrant Star Trek community.

So far, all, but one episode (the Klingon farmer part with Mariner and Boimler) simply haven't resonated with me in any special, weird, funny or what happens next kinda way as in prior seasons of the show.
I don't think it has anything to do with the production quality, humor, character developments or still excellent voice acting, so I guess it's mainly the stories for me.

Also knowing it will end definitiley put a big damper on it all to be honest.
Can't speak for socials, as I'm not really on there on purpose.

People appear to have given up. Either they watch and enjoy and move on. Or they don't watch period.

I personally watch, enjoy and move on. I honestly don’t have a lot of time to post here these days anymore. We, as a society, are just pulled in so many different directions. And there is so much media, it’s hard to really be able to focus for long enough to really dissect things.

I dunno, Disco had some decently spirited discussion on its way out.

Edit: And PIC definitely did!
Yeah, just taking a look at the Discovery season 5 episode threads and the lowest post count they ever got was in the low 300 range. In comparison, Lower Decks has yet to crack 100 this season.

If this forum is any kind of gauge to measure the level of fan excitement over a series, Lower Decks is floundering.

Picard had the benefit of bringing back the entire TNG cast. It was not like the other seasons.

I find this season of Lower Decks fine, but I do think Season 3 is still the best.

I feel it should be noted that Lower Decks episode threads never did generate as much discussion as the live action shows' episode discussion threads.

Have we only seen T'Lyn in the premiere episode? It feels like we haven't seen her at all this season, or just very very little.

We're 7 episodes in now, and it seems clear that the parallel rifts are going to be the main climax at the end of the season. I'm curious if there are any theories as to what is causing them. Given the nature of Lower Decks, I think it's safe to say that the cause of the rift will be some element from a previous show, but I'm not quite sure what.

I may be projecting, but I'm still hoping for some sort of Enterprise tie-in, Temporal Cold War nonsense.

What I'm wondering, with only three episodes left, which one's going to have the multiple Harry Kims show up we saw in the trailer?
