Yeah, no. Klingons totally don't sing...

 :rommie: :guffaw:

If one wants it to all be one timeline, then they should treat it as such. If one sees it as a multiverse, then they should treat it as such. The only important question should be around if the stories are entertaining.

No, I don’t care what CBS or current creators on the show think, as none of them worked on TOS.

Star Trek is supposed to be fun.

I was really hoping for a Short Treks like this back when they were a thing.

I do recall James Cawley saying Paramount enquired about filming on his Official Set Tour but nothing ever came of it. I'm guessing the last scene of the last episode will be on that TOS bridge. After bringing back the Enterprise-D they won't be able to help themselves.
SNW Series Finale:

Pike (wakes up in Starfleet Medical): Where's my ship? Is it safe? Is it all right?

April: After the damage in your last battle, we outsourced the costly refit to the Pakleds.

Pike: No! The Pakleds are morons! They'll turn the ship into cardboard, I know it!

April:

Pike: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(slow montage of Sam Kirk moving to Deneva, M'Benga bowing his head and accepting demotion from Kirk, Christine Chapel looking at a photo of her and Roger Korby, Scotty overlooking the new engineering, and Pike being fitted in his new Fleet Captain uniform, all on now 1960s looking TOS sets)

Final cut to Uhura talking to Kirk on the TOS bridge with a PADD, then leaving when Spock arrives. Spock crosses his arms next to Kirk and they look out at the TOS bridge monitor, now no longer a window, as Trek music dramatically plays.

Cut to credits!

Enterprise season 1 and that particular episode of snw has both gone out of their way to point out that things are happening differently now. It explains and gives you a reason for everything we have to complain about. Why people are so dead set against the concept baffles me when it is baked into the narrative.
Yes, implying the trekverse was actually different from what we saw in TOS/TNG before the "interference" we saw with the sulibans and the future guy, and the sphere builders.... What it was like...we will never know. For all we know, Picard, the D and the Voyager's journey through the Delta Quadrant never happened the first time around.

I will make this easy.

TOS > TAS > 6 TOS films > TNG > 4 TNG films
DS9 - began during TNG's 6th season
VOY - began during DS9's 3rd season
ENT - franchise prequel - "the beginning"
Reboot: trilogy of films
DIS - ignoring the reboot trilogy, but borrowing production styles, 10 years before TOS
ST - companion show to Disco
PIC - 20 years after Nemesis
LD - following Nemesis, "4th series" to TNG-DS9-VOY 90's Trek
PRO - 5 years after Voyager's homecoming
SNW - following Disco S2 and setting up TOS
S31 - What happened to Georgiou? Seems she dropped into the 2330's instead of the 2250's.

Continuity can be sloppy at times, but we've basically only got 2 continuities.
Continuity #1 - All TV shows, first 10 movies + upcoming streaming movie
Continuity #2 - Movies 11-13

If that’s how you see it, then roll with it.

I agree 100%. If you’re going to make a show that purportedly takes place in the same time period and continuity as another show, then you should make it look like that other show. Not something that looks completely different and justify it by saying that it’s just a fictional dramatization of the former show.
Star Trek ended in 1969.
Discovery premiered in 2017.
Strange New Worlds premiered in 2022.

People will expect SNW to be similar to Disco, not TOS. Honoring fans of TOS, which is kind of the whole point of SNW, general designs, characters, stories, and "important" continuity should also be expected, or so TOS fans hope.

If you don't want to go mad, I recommend these

It is like comparing a 1964 Mustang to a 2025 Mustang Mach-E. Both carry the name, but are made by completely different people, in completely different manner for a completely different world.

Ford can say it is a Mustang, they own the name, but ultimately it is up to each consumer whether or not it is truly a “Mustang” and each consumer will have their own views.

Everyone seems to want to view the show their own way, which is why there are just so many disagreements. No one fan will agree with another on everything, and the show must seem so off-putting to newbies. It's a tough franchise to be a fan of.
