"Star Trek Begins" - The 'Origins' Film Discussion

Last edited:
Imagine finding even five Star Trek fans who agree on everything!

There’s no way The Voyage Home would have been made if fans had an effective veto.

But seriously, we know this is happening and that studios take it on board. SNW and PIC S3 were both designed to appeal to online fans after early seasons of Disco proved divisive. Even giving the Klingons hair and D7s, and bringing back Pike and Spock in DIS S2 was evidence of that.

So we're all in agreement this movie, like the last half dozen or so announcements, isn't happening?
In a world where these "superfan focus groups" are happening, there is zero chance of anything getting made now:lol:

I doubt they have any real impact on anything, despite the spin the article's author is trying to make.

But it's been over six months, and we haven't heard diddly squat about this origins movie or Star Trek 4 since their initial announcement. So just like every other movie announcement since Star Trek Beyond, this is likely dead in the water.

It was originally announced as a series many years ago when they were actually producing things and was cut back to a one-off movie. Work was already being done on the project. It's the new stuff that's having a hard time getting jump-started. Until this Paramount Global purchase shit-show gets itself worked out, I have a feeling there won't be much. Trek's 50th anniversary was overshadowed and interrupted by the Viacom/CBS/Paramount merger and not much was done during that time. Merchandising was complete shit - mostly a few odds and ends and repackaged DVD and BRD sets. Certainly nothing like the glut we saw back during the 25th anniversary.

Other than whenever they decide to show the Section 31 TV movie (and LDS's last season starting this month), the only things we know for sure is that there's going to be SNW season 3 sometime next year, and cast announcements for SFA, in which production won't even start until 2026. SNW has been greenlit for S4, but that doesn't mean anything. Ditto for Tawny's pet project.

2026? Is that right? I thought sets had been built already? So potentially no SFA until 2027?
