"Star Trek Begins" - The 'Origins' Film Discussion

But unless it ends with a remake of Metamorphosis, there's no pay-off.

Old man flies off into space at the end of his life, meets cloud and lives happily ever after.

People search for him but don't find him.
It would very much give vibes of TMP as is.

The best Cochrane story was the novel Federation, and that was pretty much retconned by First Contact's characterisation of him.
Aspects of it were retconned. But other aspects are still workable.

Cochrane could still be pursued by Adrik Thorsen or Optimum remnants. And UESPA could also look for Cochrane, in some Valiant-type ship. And they visit the nine planets Cochrane visited as a part fo the search.

So a race to find him, that leads to some Mutara Nebula-like or Genesis-like battle between UESPA and Thorsen/Optimum. The victor's ship is too damage to continue searching for Cochrane and the trail goes force, forced them to head home. And maybe some aliens (Rigelian, Denobulans, Andorians, Tellarites, Kzinti, Nausicaans) are encountered along the way as part of an unofficial first contacts too.

I don't need any more Cochrane, but there is a gap between those Vulcans landing in Bozeman and that Klingon landing in Broken Bow.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing how that shattered, post-apocalyptic planet became the United Earth that was on the cusp of creating the Federation.

But I wouldn't even want to leave Earth's orbit. I don't think that's what Star Trek Begins is offering.

I don’t need to see another movie about Zefram Cochrane.

Almost like its a lost era ;).

The Vulcans helped humanity get back on their feet, but withheld technology from them and pissed them off. And they have little to no knowledge of other aliens, and their ships can only go warp 2. That’s about it.

Nonsense! 70s Trek toys were accurate portrayals of the true spirit of Star Trek!

Take that, Bele!

And don’t you hate how TOS-R erased history by no longer showing hand phasers as uniformly bright light blue or red? (Not their beams, the actual props!)

(Obviously I’m kidding.)

Siddig has been involved with several relatively high-profile projects since DS9 - namely Kingdom of Heaven, Da Vinci's Demons and Game of Thrones. He also did some more recent voice-over work in STO a couple of years back. I could see him still wanting to participate in the franchise in some way.

Oh, I would love to see him again, as well as the rest of the cast of DS9 (RIP Rene), but not as a crime fighting duo of Garak and Bashir…

…but then again, sometimes it’s best to just leave things be, and just use your imagination as to what happened to these characters, as PIC had unfortunately not done.

Sure, he’s had a great career as a character actor, but he’s not top-billing, Oscar-winning Michelle Yeoh.

I think he’s said he’d be open to return as Bashir, it just isn’t obvious what that kind of story would be.

But hey, why not just tie the two tougher and have Section 31: II be the film where Bashir finally takes them down for good?

Because I didn't need to see Yeoh in one Section 31 movie, let alone two. :/
